"Expansive and flashing, Mara Diaconu’s
painting has something that reminds us of Hartung’s gesticulating
celerity, but without his cutting asepsis, with severe formal restrictions,
differentiating from Hartung precisely due to the chromatic prodigality
and the unpredictable freedom of the touch lines. These are structured
and defined by means of ample energetic displays, emancipated from
the ward/domination of the normative constraints. Other possible
reconsiderations of the incidental reality are suggested by operating
mutations of the plastic common places – still life, landscape
and portrait – in thin aired zones with intensely fluorescent
iridescence in which the materiality of the objects is transferred
to parallel existences controlled by an enigmatic centre of gravity.
Effervescent and directly seductive, lacking conventional features
and also lacking pedantry, Mara Diaconu’s art has the natural
authenticity of the values that are acquired due to a privileged
Eucharistic."

Romanian artists’
