Adrian
Petrescu – born in Întorsura Buzaului,
România, he studied at the Brasov Music High School and
graduated from the Music University of Iasi.
He has been a prizewinner, first at the Musical Interpreting
Competition – Bucharest (at the age of fourteen), then
at the contests in Timisoara, Prague (1981), Markneukirchen
– Germany (1982), the critically praised success bringing
him invitations to perform in France, Germany, the UK, Spain,
Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, the USA, Japan, South Korea,
Singapore, Egypt.
He is first oboist of the Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra.
He has appeared as soloist with the "Virtuosi of Bucharest",
at the Festival in Schwerin (under Horia Andreescu), the "Cimarosa"
Festival in Italy, with the Tettnang Chamber Orchestra in Germany.
In addition to numerous chamber music works, his rich repertoire
includes jazz, folk music, ethnic music as well, being member
of the " Syrinx" Trio and founder of the "Romanian
Folk Orchestra", with which he enjoyed a highly acclaimed
success at Dranouter Festival, Belgium. With his partner, pianist
N. Licaret, he has made tours in the country and abroad performing
Romanian folk music on various specific instruments, the concert
being then recorded on the album The Magic of Adrian Petrescu
CD released in Cambridge, UK. His recordings with Electrecord
include famous works adapted for soprano saxophone under the
title Love under blue star as well as various works
by Dittersdorf and Vieru ( together with the "Bucharest
Virtuosi", conducted by H. Andreescu), and on DVD –
the concerto by Marcello together with the Bucharest Philharmonic
Orchestra, conducted by Mandeal.
