Graduated at the Conservatory of Verona, he also attended the Accademia Lirica in Mantua (1981-82) and specialized in the Verdian repertory with Carlo Bergonzi, his current master. Winner of various international competitions, in 1998 he made his operatic debut in Un ballo in maschera in Parma.

His career has taken him to most of the major opera houses and orchestras around the world, such as Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Regio di Parma, Arena di Verona, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Teatro Real de Madrid, Opernhaus in Zürich, Megaron in Athens and RAI Auditorium in Turin, with a repertory including Attila, La traviata, Il trovatore, Un ballo in maschera, Aida, Rigoletto, Macbeth, Otello, La bohéme, Madama Butterfly, Cavalleria rusticana, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Faust and Werther.

The 2007/08 season has seen him performing Don Carlo (Rodrigo) at the Opernhaus in Zürich, Macbeth (title role) at the Dallas Opera, Luisa Miller (Miller) in Sassari, Madama Butterfly (Sharpless) at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, Nabucco (title role) at the Wiener Staatsoper and Simon Boccanegra (title role) at the Deutsche Oper of Berlin, Rigoletto (title role) in Hong Kong (a tour of Teatro Regio di Parma) and Andrea Chénier (Gerard) in Las Palmas.

His future engagements include, among others, Nabucco (title role) at the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Simon Boccanegra (title role) at the Liceu in Barcelona, Lucia di Lammermoor (Enrico) in Avenches, at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Le Roi Arthus at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, I Puritani (Sir Riccardo) at the Opéra in Toulon, La traviata (Germont) at the Wiener Staatsoper, Rigoletto (title role) at the Teatro Colon de Buenos Aires, I masnadieri (Francesco) in Las Palmas and Andrea Chénier (Gerard) at the New National Theatre in Tokyo.

The 2006/07 season has brought him to perform as Rodrigo (Don Carlo) at the Opernhaus in Zürich, as Scarpia (Tosca) in Como, Brescia, Pavia, Cremona and at the Festival Internacional in Santander, as Gérard (Andrea Chènier) at the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania, as Alfio (Cavalleria Rusticana) in St. Gallen, as Rigoletto (Verdi’s Rigoletto) in Tokyo with the Japan Opera Foundation and as Tonio (I Pagliacci) at the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova.

In the 2005/06 season he performed, with a huge success, Aida at the Teatro Regio in Torino, Rigoletto at the Teatro alla Scala di Milano, in Mexico and Maribor, Macbeth in Detroit, Lucia di Lammermoor at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, La traviata at the Staatsoper in Wien, Rigoletto in Valladolid, Don Carlo at the Teatro Megaron of Athens, Il trovatore in Japan (a tour with Teatro Comunale di Bologna) and at the Festival of Avenches. His past highlight engagements also include Un ballo in maschera at the Teatro Regio di Torino and at the Arena in Verona; Il trovatore under the baton of Daniel Oren and staged by Franco Zeffirelli at the Arena di Verona; Faust under the baton of Gian Lugi Gelmetti and Respighi’s Marie Victoire (new production of Hugo De Ana; world premiere) at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma; Attila at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna; Don Carlo at the Teatro Real in Madrid; Il trovatore and Lucia di Lammermoor at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo; La traviata at the Wiener Staatsoper and at Opernhaus in Zürich, Andrea Chénier at the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia and in Bologna, Samson et Dalila in Genova and Bilbao, Aida in Genova and Athens, Nabucco at the Wiener Staatsoper and Genova (DVD available for RAITRADE) and Simon Boccanegra at the Teatro Regio di Trieste.
