Nikolai
Alexeev is without any doubt the Shostakovich expert on orchestra
stages. At his debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra
his conducting of
Shostakovich's Sixth Symphony showed great tension right from
the first beat.

Currently Chief Conductor of the Estonian National Symphony
Orchestra and Associate Conductor of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic
Orchestra, Nikolai Alexeev has been a major
figure on the musical stages of the main houses in Europe. In
2001 he made his successful debut with the Netherlands Radio
Symphony Orchestra at Concertgebouw Amsterdam replacing Eri
Klas at very short notice. He conducted the Royal Concertgebouw
Orchestra, Orchestre National de Belgique, Deutsches Symphonie
Orchester Berlin, Göteborg Symphony, Rotterdam Philharmonic,
Residentie Orkest, Dresden Philharmonic, Stuttgart Philharmonic,
BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic,
English Chamber Orchestra, Bilbao Orchestra, Copenhagen Philharmonic,
Wiener Concert-Verein, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
Nikolai Alexeev is a versatile conductor whose
symphonic and opera repertoire ranges from classic repertoire
like Mozart and Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov
to contemporary music by Schönberg, Hindemith, Stravinsky
and Prokoviev as well as contemporary Nordic composers.
Winner and laureate of the Karajan Competition, Vaclav Talich
Competition Prague and Minon Competition in Japan Nikolai
Alexeev has directed the leading Russian symphony orchestras
in Russia and on tour in Europe, America and Japan. In 2001
he has been directing a tour of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic
Orchestra in France with huge success. Nikolai Alexeev regularly
conducts the Russian National Orchestra and the State Academic
Symphony Orchestra of Evgeni Svetlanov.
Future engagements will include concerts with the Orchestre
National de Belgique, Royal Concertgebouw
Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin, New Japan Philharmonic
etc.
Nikolai Alexeev was born into a family of renowned
musicians in St. Petersburg. After completing the St.
Petersburg Conservatory studying with Arvid and Mariss Jansons,
Nikolai Alexeev worked with the Ulyanovsk Philharmonic and the
Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra.
