The
Bach Collegium München has made
a name for itself not only in Germany but also on tour, establishing
itself among the leading ensembles of the world. In the early
years, the orchestra became known for its transparent and vital
interpretative style. And its reputation both nationally and internationally
was soon secured. Exuding a certain southern German flair, the
Bach Collegium Munchen is especially renowned for its performances
of works by Mozart; the orchestra is steeped of course in the
tradition of a region in which the composer himself lived and
worked.
Although the name of the orchestra leads one to make certain assumptions,
the repertoire and the breadth of the Collegium’s interpretations
extend from Monteverdi and Händel to Mozart and Beethoven,
with many a contemporary work included for good measure. Joining
forces with jazz legends such as Jacques Loussier and Dave Brubeck
may be seen as highlights of the orchestra’s artistic endeavours.
And working with artists such as Wolfgang Sawallisch, Anne Sophie
Mutter, Maxim Vengerov, Shlomo Mintz, Mstislav Rostropovich, Christopher
Hogwood, Peter Schreier, Diana Damrau, Simon Preston and the Munich
Bach Choir must also get special mention here.
Not only is the
Bach Collegium München a
household name in Germany but their perfect ensemble has brought
them high acclaim in concert tours throughout the world, as well,
and has placed them among the first rank of international orchestras.
Even though their name may suggest otherwise, the repertoire and
musical intelligence of the Bach Collegium München ranges
from works by Monteverdi and Händel to those of contemporary
composers. But perhaps above all the orchestra is renowned for
giving a special Southern German flair to the works of Mozart,
the home region of the Bach Collegium München and the very
region in which Mozart himself lived and composed.
