Marin Cazacu – born at Vidra, Romania, earned a degree in violincello performance from the National University of Music (class of Prof. Serafm Antropov and Aurel Niculescu), he attended master classes at Weimar, winning important prizes at the competitions in Geneva – Switzerland, Markneukirchen and Leipzig (Bach Competition) – Germany, Bologna – Italy, Belgrade – Yugoslavia. Still an undergraduate, he performed solo and in concert, becoming soloist of the Bucharest Philharmonic in 1983.

He has toured throughout Europe, in Asia and America, under maestros as Sergiu Comissiona, Mendi Rodan, Cristian Mandeal, Horia Andreescu, Emil Simon, Ghenadi Rojdestvensky, Ros Marba, Jean Perrison, Misha Katz, as well collaborating in various chamber music combinations with reputed soloists, including Valentin Gheorghiu, Stefan Gheorghiu, Radu Aldulescu, Vladimir Orlov, Mihaela Martin, Steluta Radu, Ion Ivan Roncea, Jeremy Menuhin and ensembles as "Pro Arte" Trio and "Voces" Quartet. In 1990 he performed the Radio Orchestra Berlin, and in 1994 he appeared in the "Europe Musicale" Festival in Munich, performing with the Bucharest Philharmonic under H. Andreescu (concerts live broadcast through EUR).

In 1992 he was appointed professor at the National University, his students receiving several prestigious national and international prizes. He was Assistant Conductor to maestro Aldulescu at the master classes in Sinaia and Costinesti, he himself directing summer courses at home and abroad. In 1998 he founded, with Alexandra Gutu, Razvan Suma, Olga Manescu, "Cellissimo" Quartet, an ensemble that has been invited to festivals in Venice, Mateus, Macau, Singapore, Istanbul, Madrid, Bucharest. Together with his students, he has formed "Violincellissimo" (8-12 violincellos), performing as well at the "George Enescu" Festival, 2001.

He has recorded Enescu’s Concert Symphony with the Radio National Orchestra, under H. Andreescu (on Electrecord, Olympia), and with the Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Mandeal (for Arte Nova). He has recorded solo and chamber music on the same label. He has been awarded prizes and honours, namely the Critics’ Union Award, the "Music Today Magasine" Award 2001– "for solo perfomance", the Anniversary Medal "Musical Radio Romania" 2002, The Cultural Merit Order ( 2004 ).
