INTERNATIONAL VIOLIN COMPETITION

  THE ROUNDS OF THE COMPETITION

•  The violin competition consists of two eliminatory rounds, the semi-final and the final - concert with orchestra.

•  The first round (eliminatory) will take place on August 30th, 31st and September 1st 2009. Each competitor will perform a program that can not exceed 45 minutes.

•  The second round (eliminatory) will take place on September 2nd 2009. Each competitor will perform a program that can not exceed 50 minutes.

•  The Semifinal will take place on September 3rd 2009. Each competitor will perform a program that can not exceed 40 minutes.

•  The rehearsal with the orchestra for the final round of the competition will take place on September 4th 2009.

•  The Final of the Competition - concert with the orchestra - will take place on September 5th 2009.

The Competition Board will announce the result of each round immediately after the jury’s deliberation

  THE REPERTOIRE

•  The works included in the registration form are definite and can not be changed.
•  Each competitor will establish the order of the works to be performed in each round.
•  Excepting the sonatas for violin and piano, all other works must be performed from memory.

First round
   •  J.S. Bach
      - Adagio and Fugue from the Sonata in g minor or
      - Grave and Fugue from the Sonata in a minor or
      - Partita in d minor – Ciaccona
      - Adagio and Fugue from Sonata in C major
   •  Mozart - one of the concertos (1-5) for violin and orchestra - first movement with cadenza
   
Second round
    • A work to be chosen among the following:
      - Sarasate – Carmen Fantasy, Zigeunerweisen or
      - Paganini – Moses Fantasie, Motto perpetuo, Le Streghe, I palpiti, Nel cor piu non mi sento or
      - Saint-Saens – Introduction and Rondo Capricioso, Study in Waltz form transcribed by E. Ysaye or
      - Ernst – Erlkonig, The last rose or
      - Ravel – Tzigane or
      - Wieniawski – Faust Fantasie, Polonaise in D major
   • A work to be chosen among the following:
      - F. Schubert - Rondo Brillant for violin and piano D 895 or
      - Rondo in A Major for violin and piano or
      - Schumann - Fantasy in C Major op. 131
   • Enescu - Sonata for violin and piano in F Minor no.2, op.6, (1st movement)

Semifinal
   • Beethoven - a sonata chosen by the candidate among no. 3, 7 or 10.
   • A sonata chosen among the following composers: Brahms (sonata no. 1 or 3), Ravel, Hindemith (Sonata no. 1), Debussy or Bentoiu
   • Ad libitum - on top of the lasting time established for this round: George Enescu
     - Sonata no.3 op.25 for violin and piano or
     - Suite “Impressions from childhood” for violin and piano

Final - Concert with orchestra
   •  A concerto by one of the following composers:Beethoven, Mendelssohn – Bartholdy, Brahms, Tchaikovski, Sibelius, Prokofieff (2nd concerto) or Bartok (2nd Concerto).
