Two young musicians from South Korea, Germany, Japan, Italy and China and one from Romania, UK, New Zealand, Ukraine, Croatia, Turkey and the Republic of Moldova have qualified to the Second round of the Violin Section at the “George Enescu” International Competition 2018, the results of which were announced on Monday evening.
The first round of the “George Enescu” International Competition 2018, Violin Section took place on September 8 th, 9 th and 10th at the University of Music Bucharest.
The special jury decided on Monday evening, September 10th, the contestants qualified to the Second round of the Competition. Due to the high artistic level of the contestants registered in the Enescu Competition 2018, the jury has decided to pass 17 young musicians further, instead of 16.
The qualified contestants are:
Angela Jiye Bae (South Korea), Mălina Ciobanu (Romania), Cristian De Sa (UK), Giuseppe Gibboni (Italy), Haram Kim (South Korea), Alexandra Lomeiko (New Zealand), Elias David Moncado (Germany), Felicitas Schiffner (Germany), Vikram Sedona (Italy), Haruna Shinoyama (Japan), Orest Smovzh (Ukraine), Una Stanic (Croatia), Alican Suner (Turkey), Alexandra Tirsu (Republic of Moldova), Yukiko Uno (Japan), Songao Wu (China), Jinru Zhang (China).
The Jury of the Violin Section at the 2018 edition of the Enescu Competition consists of Pierre Amoyal, (President of the Jury), Salvatore Accardo, Agustin Leon Ara, Remuz Azoiței, Silvia Marcovici, Eduard Schmieder, Viktor Tretyakov, Pavel Vernikov, Krzysztof Wegrzyn.
The second round (knockout) of the Enescu Competition takes place on September 12th and 13th, starting at 10 am, at the Romanian Athenaeum. The semifinal will be organized on September 15th. The Final of the Competition, Violin Section, consisting of three concerts with orchestra, with the extraordinary participation of the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor Christoph Poppen, will take place on September 17th, at 7 pm, in the Grand Hall of the Romanian Athenaeum.

Between September 1st and 23rd, 270 young artists from 39 countries from all over the world are coming to Bucharest to give life to their dream of becoming great artists of the world, at the 2018 edition of the George Enescu International Competition.
Organised as a stand-alone event since the 2014 edition, “George Enescu” International Competition invites the audience to discover some of the most talented young artists today, great names of tomorrow’s classical music and to follow and support their journey to the top: winning the competition. This year “George Enescu” International Competition celebrates 60 years after the first edition of the Competition.
