A Christmas present for classical music lovers: the concert of Filarmonica della Scala on the Enescu Festival’s website

The George Enescu International Festival invites classical music lovers to enjoy one of the most appreciated concerts of the jubilee edition on www.festivalenescu.ro, during this year’s winter holidays.

The recording presents the concert given by the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala from Milan, conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada, together with the famous cellist Daniel Müller-Schott as soloist. The concert took place on September 2, 2021, at the Grand Palace Hall, within the series Great Orchestras of the World, and received great appreciation from the audience. The program is dedicated to the composers Dvořák and Brahms: Cello Concerto in B minor, op. 104 and Brahms Symphony No. 2 in D major op. 73. The concert recording can be viewed free of charge starting Friday, December 24th, until January 2 at this link.

Filarmonica della Scala is an independent orchestra founded by Claudio Abbado together with the musicians of La Scala Opera House in 1982 with the primary aim of developing a symphonic repertoire in order to add a further dimension to La Scala’s great operatic tradition. The Orchestra has collaborated with some of the greatest conductors of the time: Carlo Maria Giulini, Georges Prêtre, Lorin Maazel, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Zubin Metha, Leonard Bernstein and many others. Riccardo Muti was the Principal Conductor from 1987 to 2005. Riccardo Chailly was named Principal Conductor in 2015. Filarmonica performed more than 800 concerts on tour in the last 30 years.

On the Enescu Festival’s YouTube channel the audience can watch the movie “History Made with Love | 2021 George Enescu International Festival”, which shows the behind the scenes of the jubilee edition of the Enescu Festival. The documentary also connects viewers with both the emotions of the artists as seen behind the scenes, and with some of the strategic thinking that allowed the organization of the event in pandemic conditions.
