Alexandru Ștefan Murariu

Alexandru Ștefan Murariu is a Ph.D. junior lecturer at the „Gheorghe Dima” National Academy of Music in Cluj-Napoca, within the Department of Musical Composition and Conducting. He has earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral Degree (Department of Composition, 2012, 2014 and 2019) at the same institution, under the guidance of Professor Adrian Pop.

Over the years of study, he achieves numerous national prizes at composition competitions like „Liviu Comes”, „Ștefan Niculescu”, „Alexandru Zirra”, „Sigismund Toduță” etc. In 2014, he receives the 1st prize for chamber music at the „George Enescu” International Competition with the work „El Niño” for ensemble and in 2018 he wins the 1st prize for Symphonic music at the same competition, with his „Espaces VI – Clarinet concerto”.

Another important achievement in his career is winning the „Prix de composition à la mémoire de Nadia Boulanger” during the Fontainebleau American Schools Academy in 2017.

In the years 2015 and 2019 he obtains the „George Enescu” Scholarship offered by the Romanian Cultural Institute. The Scholarship offered him two artistic residencies at the „Cité Internationale des Arts” in Paris.

Starting with the year 2016, he is a member of the Romanian Composers and Musicologists Union and in the years 2017 and 2018 he receives the U.C.M.R. (Romanian Composition and Musicologists Union) prize.
