Annie Seeun Hyung

SOUTH KOREA

Korean-American cellist Annie Seeun Hyung has performed at numerous international venues, including Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts, Taipei’s National Performing Arts Center, Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Jordan Hall. Currently, she studies with Hans Jørgen Jensen at the Northwestern University.

Annie has most recently performed in collaboration with esteemed musicians including Steven Isserlis, Christian Tetzlaff, and Tabea Zimmermann. She has appeared in numerous festivals, including the Kronberg Academy’s Chamber Music Connects, Perlman Music Program, the Taos School of Music, New York String Orchestra Seminar and Orford Musique.

Annie was a semifinalist of the 2021 Young Concert Artists International Auditions in the USA, and previously the 1st place winner of the California American String Teachers Association Competition. She is also a prize winner of the Musicians Club of Women in Chicago, National YoungArts Foundation, Young Musicians Foundation, and the Peninsula Symphony. Annie has attended the masterclasses of Laurence Lesser, Michel Strauss, Natasha Brofsky, and Amit Peled, as well as those organized by the Borromeo, Brentano, and Shanghai String Quartets. She served as principal cellist of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas and Marin Alsop, and performed as assistant principal cellist of the American Youth Symphony.

Especially inspired by her late introduction to classical music in high school, Annie is particularly invested in providing music education for children; she has served as a music education coordinator at several youth organizations, and enjoys performing at community centers and medical facilities as a music therapy volunteer. She is currently simultaneously pursuing a certificate in Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University.
