Annika Gerhards

The German soprano Annika Gerhards studied voice at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main.

After finishing her studies she was an ensemble member of the Wiener Staatsoper where she sang parts like Giannetta/ L‘elisir d’amore, Waldvogel/Siegfried, Junger Hirt/Tannhäuser, Barbarina/ Le Nozze di Figaro as well as Sand-/Taumännchen and Gretel in the new production of „Hänsel und Gretel“ with Christian Thielemann. She also sang the title part in Lortzings „Undine“ in the version for children of the Wiener Staatsoper and Pünktchen in Ivan Eröds „Pünktchen und Anton“. Furthermore she had a big success as Marzelline/ Fidelio with Adam Fischer and as Adele/ Fledermaus with Stefan Soltesz.

Besides her performances at the Wiener Staatsoper she sang Zaide, Valencienne/ Die lustige Witwe, Frasquita/ Carmen and Annina/ Eine Nacht in Venedig at the Staatstheater Darmstadt, the Händel-Festspiele Karlsruhe, the Rheingau Musik Festival and the Seefestspiele Mörbisch.

After her Festengagement in Vienna engagements led her to the Komische Oper Berlin as 1. Elfe/ Rusalka, to the Theater Gießen as „Frau“ in Schnittke´s „Leben mit einem Idioten“ and as Adele/ Die Fledermaus to the Oper Köln, to the NDR Radiophilharmonie in Hannover (with CD-production) and to the Staatsoperette in Dresden. At this company she sang afterwards also Susanna/ Nozze di Figaro, Kundegonde/ Candide, Gretel, Valencienne/ Die lustige Witwe, the title part in „Die schöne Galathee“, Lauretta/ Gianni Schicchi and Pamina/ Die Zauberflöte.

In 2020 she gave her succesful role- and housedebut as Fiakermilli/ Arabella at the Oper Leipzig with Ulf Schirmer and sang Adele in a new production of „Die Fledermaus“ at the Theater Gießen where she will return to in 2022 for Alma Beers in a new production of Charles Wuorinen´s „Brokeback Mountain“.

In 2021 she sang Oscar in a CD-production of „Un ballo in maschera“ Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo/Lawrence Foster for San Francisco Classical Recording.

Besides her opera performances she also has a wide concert repertoire, in 2015 her first CD (with songs by Schumann, Strauss, Rihm) was released. Recitals led her, among others, to the Wiener Musikverein, Frankfurt and Madrid. 2013 she won best young talent at the edition of the Wettbewerb „Das Lied“, founded by Thomas Quasthoff.
