Baritone
Following his degree in Biochemistry from the University of Warwick, English baritone Christopher Maltman studied singing at the Royal Academy of Music.
A globally renowned Don Giovanni, he has sung the role in London, Berlin, Munich, Cologne, Salzburg, Amsterdam, Toulouse, Beijing, Chicago, San Sebastian, Edinburgh, and New York. Now, increasingly in demand for Verdi roles, he has sung Posa Don Carlo, Simon Boccanegra Falstaff, Conte di Luna Il trovatore, Guy de Montfort Les Vêpressiciliennes and more recently, Don Carlo di Vargas La forza del destino and Rigoletto to wide critical acclaim.
A favourite at the Royal Opera House in London and a regular guest at the BayerischeStaatsoper in Munich, the Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin and the Salzburger Festspiele, Christopher also performs elsewhere across Europe including the Opéra National de Paris, Frankfurt Oper, Opernhaus Zurich, the Liceu Barcelona, Teatro Real Madrid, Dutch National Opera and at the Teatro Regio in Turin. In the United States he frequently appears at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, at the San Francisco Opera, in Seattle, San Diego and Los Angeles.

Christopher won the Lieder Prize in the 1997 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition and remains a renowned interpreter of Lieder and song. He has continued to delight audiences with his sensitive and engaging song performances, many of which are documented in acclaimed recordings. His vast and varied discography, from Purcell to Ades includes John Corigliano’s Grammy award-winning ‘Ghost of Versailles’ from Los Angeles Opera.
