Cristian Florea

Born in Romania, Cristian Florea has been considered since his first apparences on stage, a big musical talent, a fact confirmed by the awards he has won at international competitions, in Belgrad, Colmar -1987, Geneva-1979, Munich-1982, etc.

He started studying the cello under the guidance of professor Gerhard Miess at the Music and Arts Highschool in Sibiu, his hometown, and continued his studies in Cluj with professor Hilde Herber. In 1969 he became a student at George Enescu Music Highschool in Bucharest, where he studies the cello with Ilie Iliescu and Josep Calef and chamber music with Luminița Ghencea. Soon, he became active in the music competition field and also in the concert field, winning the first prize at the Chamber Music Competition for the art highschools, and also making his debut as a soloist at the age of 15, playing Saint-Saens cello Concerto in a minor, at  the Romanian Atheneum. After highschool, he studied at Ciprian Porumbescu Conservatory in Bucharest, nowadays National University of Music Bucharest, where he had teachers such as George Iarosevici, Serafim Antropov, Aurel Niculescu, Paul and Irina Staicu, George Halmoș, Wilhelm Berger. He manages to study with Marcal Cervera and obtains honory gradation at Freiburg im Breisgau Conservatory of Music (Germany). Leaving his country made possible the meeting with artists theat made an impact on his musical evolution, studying with Pierre Fournier, Sandor Vegh, Isaac Stern, Enric Casals and Stefan Popov.

His musical talent is underlined by his rich imagination, sensuality, and especially by his perfect, warm and deep sound as Daily Telegraph mentioned (London,1985). All those qualities assuared his apparences on stages in Romania, Switzerland, Germany, often working with famous conductors such as Nello Santi, Ferdinand Leitner, Kirill Kondrașin, Rudolf Bershai, Mstislav Rostropovici, Leopold Hager, Nikolaus Arnonkur and many others. He played a lot of chamber music, playing in George Enescu piano trio, Livachitz string trio (Trio Zurich), Winterhur string quartet, and the Chamber Orchestra with the same name based in Switzerlamd, also he was a member of the Ensamble of 13 based in Baden Baden, and was the solo cello of the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich.

He has always combined his atistic activity with pedagogy, teaching cello lessons at Freiburg Superior Music School (1985) and Trossingen (1985-1990)- Germany. He has taught also chamber music and orchestra lessons at Diputacio di Tarragona Conservatory in Spain. He regularly holds masterclasses and is invited as a jury member at prestigious international competitions in Romania (Jeunesses Musicales), Germany (Kurt Masur), Spain (Primer Contractem), Armenia (Aram Khachaturian).

The tendancy for conducting was always present, so in 1986, when he founded ,,Kamerorchester Cristian Florea” in Freiburg, Germany, Cristian Florea made a dream come true. In 1989 he became general director and conductor of Sibiu Philarmonic Orchestra and he actively worked for the infrastructure of ,, Hermania”  and ,,Sala Thalia” cultural centers. In 1992 he founded European Symphonic Orchestra, and had a lot of projects during a long period of time, in which he worked with a lot of great artists among Jose Carreras, Montserrat Caballe, Teresa Berganza, Placido Domingo, Ainoah Arteta…

Since 2020, he was soloist of Sibiu Philarmonic. Currently he is first conductor of Moldova Republic National Chamber Orchestra, an ensamble he conducted in 2011 and 2015 in concerts of George Enescu Festival. Other invitations for special events followed, concerts at Cotroceni Palace and Casa Radio. For the succesful musical projects during the years since he has been working  with Moldova Republic National Chamber Orchestra (1992-present), he was awarded the Prize ,, G. Musicescu” from the Ministery of Culture (2011) , and he was given the title of ,,Master of Arts” in Moldova Republic (2011).

Interested in many musical works form all historical epochs, Cristian Florea has a rich repertoire with a lot of premieres, and a lot of opuses have been recorded on LP, CD, for radio and television posts: Spania TV1, TV2, TV3, TV France1, TV5, TV Romani, Cluj TV, TV Moldova, Swiss DRS, German SWF3, Koln WDR, Baden Baden Funk Tv, Sufunk Stuttgart, SDR Karlsruhe, Hungarian TV, Radio Nacional de Espana, Bayrische Rundfunk Munchen, Niederlaendische Rundfunk of Den Haag.

Cristian Florea, soloist and conductor, has worked succesfully with a lot of ensambles: Mozarteum Salzburg (Austria), Soloist of Montpellier (France), Musici of Prague (Czech Republic), Philarmonic of Montperry (Mexico), Masrid Symphonic Orchestra (Spain), Symphonic Orchestra Nationa de Catalunya of Barcelona, orchestra of Malaga, Galicia, Murcia (Spain), National Orchestras of Cluj, Bacău, Botoșani, Brașov, Iași, Arad, Oradea, Satu Mare, Târgu Mureș, Craiova , Constanța, George Enescu Phialrmonic in Bucharest, amd orchestra ensamles from Ukraine, Moldova Republic, Italy, USA, Hungary, Germany, Belarus, Russia, Lithuania ,etc.

Cellist, conductor, artistic manager, teacher, true european artist with double citizenship, both romanian and german, living in Spain, Romania and Moldova Republic, Cristian Florea is know as one of the most valuable artists of international reputation.
