DANIEL DASCĂLU

Pianist Daniel Dascălu gave recitals on stages in Bucharest, Iași, Brașov, Cluj, Constanța, Sibiu and played with the orchestras of the Oltenia Philharmonic from Craiova, Mihail Jora from Bacău, the State Philharmonic from Botoșani, as well as at the Romanian Athenaeum, under the baton of conductor Bogdan Vodă, as part of the traditional Chei Festival of the National University of Music in Bucharest. He also gave numerous recitals abroad: Vienna (Arnold Schönberg Center, Gesellschaft für Musiktheater, MDW), Salzburg (Mozarteum), Munich (Philharmonie am Gasteig), Brescia (Museo Diocesano), Split, Dresden (Dreikönigskirche).

Passionate about chamber music, Daniel Dascălu has performed in chamber ensembles at the Romanian Athenaeum, at the Șutu Palace in Bucharest also in Iași, as part of the International Classix Festival, as well as in Sweden – Aurora Music Festival (Mariestad) and Greece – International Kalamata Music Days.

Daniel won prizes and distinctions at national and international competitions, including the 2nd Prize at the Suzana Szörenyi International Competition, in 2016, Piano Duo section – 4 hands with Iulian Ochescu and the 3rd Prize, in 2017,  lyrical-dramatic chamber Duo section, accompanied by soprano Florina Ilie, 1st Prize at the Mihail Jora National Competition (2014), Honorable Mention at the Vigo International Piano Competition (2021), Special Prize of the Romanian Performative Creation Union (2017), The Union of Composers and Musicologists from Romania Prize (2013).

Daniel Dascălu is a graduate of the University of Music in Vienna, the piano class of Professor Martin Hughes. He is a graduate of the National University of Music in Bucharest, prof. Dr. Dana Borșan, under whose guidance, in February 2021, Daniel obtained the title of Doctor of Music.

Concerned with interpretive mastery, Daniel Dascălu participated in masterclass sessions with renowned pianists such as Klaus Hellwig, Peter Donohoe, Henri Sigfridsson, Roberto Plano, and Andreas Frölich. He is currently pursuing postgraduate studies at the University of Music in Vienna, in the chamber music class of Professor Stefan Mendl.

Since October 2021, he has been a senior lecturer at the National University of Music in Bucharest.
