Dawid Runtz

Chief Conductor at Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra and Principal Conductor at Polish Royal Opera, Dawid is recognised for his impeccable, elegant technique, thorough command of complex scores, extraordinary sensitivity and evocative performances. He made his debut in 2016 with Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra after graduating from Fryderyk Chopin Music University in the class of Maestro Antoni Wit. He was an Assistant Conductor to Jacek Kaspszyk at Warsaw Philharmonic (2017/18), Scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage) and has been in high demand as a guest conductor with majority of Poland’s finest orchestras since.

Future highlights see invitations from Sinfonieorchester Liechtenstein, Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra, Kraków Philharmonic, Opera Nova Bydgoszcz, among others. Most notable among his projects include a Japanese debut with Pacific Festival Orchestra in Sapporo (Strauss Don Juan), a tour of Lithuania with Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra (Bacewicz’s Concerto for String Orchestra, Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 and Beethoven’s Symphony No.7), performances with Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra at Krzysztof Penderecki Festival Orchestra for composer’s 85th birthday and at the 10. La Folle Journée festival in Warsaw, concert with Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra at 25th Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, acclaimed performances of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and Schumann’s Cello Concerto in A minor with Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra and engagements with Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini, Beethoven Academy Orchestra, Sinfonietta Cracovia, Polish Radio Orchestra, among others.

Dawid made his opera debut in 2015 (Przybylski’s Orphee at Warsaw Chamber Opera), followed by a cooperation with Grand Theatre – National Opera in Warsaw, where he assisted in productions of Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito and Die Zauberflöte, Verdi’s Nabucco and a ballet performance The Tempest. With Polish Royal Opera he has so far led successful premiers of Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Così fan tutte, La finta giardiniera and performances of Moniuszko’sThe Hounted Manor.

Past achievements include participation in Riccardo Muti Italian Opera Academy (2016, Verdi’s La Traviata), Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra masterclass led by Daniele Gatti (2017, Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor, Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, Stravinsky’s Petrushka), Tanglewood Conducting Seminar; work with Boston Symphony Orchestra (2018, Assistant Conductor auditions) and 3rd Prize and Audience Prize at 1st International Hong Kong Conducting Competition (2018, Brahms’ Symphony No 3 in F). Dawid has also worked with Zbigniew Preisner on recording music for Valley of Shadows, Lian Qu 1980 and Man of God.

Dawid is a lecturer at the Fryderyk Chopin Music University in Warsaw where he has recently obtained his doctoral degree in Musical Arts: Conducting.
