Elisa Balbo

Praised for her luminous and silky voice combined with her great musicality, Elisa Balbo is increasingly regarded as one of the most promising young singers on the opera scene. Balbo has appeared in some among the world’s major theatres under the conduction, among others, of Riccardo Muti. She sang in venues such as Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Arena di Verona, Teatro Filarmonico di Verona, Ravenna Festival, Wiener Konzerthaus in Vienna, Grand Theatre Rubinstein Rimsij-Korsakov in Saint Petersburg, Rossini in Wildbad Festival, among others.

Her latest performances include, among the others, the debut in the Italian premiere of Lo Schiavo by Gomes (DVD by Dynamic) in the virtuoso role of the Countess of Boissy at the season opening of Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, the arduous role of Amenaide in Tancredi at Rossini in Wildbad (DVD by Naxos), and the debut as Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello at Ravenna Festival. Among her recent engagements, the demanding Anna Erisso, in Maometto II at Rossini in Wildbad Festival, La Traviata (Violetta) in the Japan tour of Teatro Manzoni – Bologna, the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation world tour, to celebrate the 10° anniversary since his passing in Turku, Finland, Arena di Verona, Jakarta, a concert tour and opera performances in China, Turandot (Liù) at Teatro Verdi – Sassari, The Merry Widow (Hanna Glawari) at Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Carmina Burana at Moscow International Music House, and a concert tour with Andrea Bocelli in the UK, the USA, Romania, Finland, Poland and Jordan. In 2018 she also took part in the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Rossini’s death singing his Stabat Mater at Teatro Dante Alighieri in Ravenna and Teatro Rossini in Pesaro and Moïse et Pharaon at Rossini in Wildbad Festival. Elisa will return to Ravenna Festival for her debut as Micaela in Carmen by G. Bizet.

Balbo’s professional carreer started with her operatic debut as Alice in Verdi’s Falstaff with the Ravenna Festival. A number of successful roles followed, including Mimi in Puccini’s La Boheme at Teatro Filarmonico in Verona and Teatro Vittorio Emanuele in Messina.

Sensitive to sacred and symphonic music, Elisa Balbo will take part to the recording of José Cura’s Ecce Homo in the role of Mary. The recording will also feature Vesselina Kazarova, Ramón Vargas, and Nicolas Testé. Balbo’s repertoire also includes Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle (Teatro dell’Opera di Roma), Mozart’s Requiem ( Japan Tour of the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini di Pesaro), the Four Last Songs by Richard Strauss and Symphony No.2 op. 52 by Mendelsohn-Bartholdy (Teatro Lirico di Cagliari).

Active also on the concert side, during the 2015/16 season Ms. Balbo took part as soloist in a Gala Tribute to Pavarotti at Teatro Comunale di Modena under the baton of Riccardo Muti. In 2013 she took part in the concert for the Italian Republic Day joining the Orchestra Sinfonica della Rai at Auditorium Toscanini di Torino under the baton of Daniele Rustioni. She took parte in many Opera Galas, in particular she’s been a guest artist at Arena di Verona since 2013. In 2017, she also took part in the New Year’s Concert at the Budapest Pap Laszlo Arena, sharing the stage with artists such as Ramon Vargas. The concert had a rerun at the Weiner Konzerthaus, in Vienna.
