Michael Pflumm

Michael Pflumm, born in the South of Germany (Hechingen/Hohenzollern) is a graduate of Freiburg University of Music and completed his private training with Bernhard Gärtner in Stuttgart.
After his studies he became a ensemble member of the Theater Basel, Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf/Duisburg, Theater Bielefeld and the Komische Oper Berlin. Since 2015 he is freelancing.

In recent seasons Michael Pflumm appeared at the Teatro alla Scala Milan, Opéra National de Paris (Bastille), Teatro Real Madrid, Semperoper Dresden, Oper Köln and Oper Leipzig, the Staatstheater Braunschweig, Saarbrücken and Cottbus, as well as at the Theater Freiburg, Aachen and Bremen.
Other highlights were Andres in Alban Berg´s Wozzeck in Glasgow with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Gustav Mahler´s Das Lied von der Erde with the Jenaer Philharmonie, Arnold Schönberg´s Die Jakobsleiter with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR), further Kurt Weill”s Silver Lake at the Konzerthaus Berlin. Other concert appearances and Liederabende have led Michael Pflumm to Switzerland, France, Austria and South Korea, or with the Deutsches-Symphonie-Orchester in the Berliner Philharmonie.

An advocate for contemporary music and as a guest of the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart he has sung in La Monnaie Brussels, Casa da Musical Porto, at the Festival Nous Sons Barcelona, Printemps des Arts Monaco, Festival Musica Strasbourg, Sagra Musicale Umbria, as well as the Ravello Festival and worked with ensembles like the Klangforum Wien, or the Bamberger Symphoniker.

The season 2017/18 includes Tony in West Side Story at the Staatsoper Hannover and at the Staatstheater Kassel, the world premiere of Oscar Strasnoy´s Luther with the Staatskapelle Halle, Kagel´s song cycle In der Matratzengruft in the Tonhalle Zürich with the Collegium Novum Zürich, the Xenos-Szenen from Beat Furrer with the Neue Vocalsolisten and the Klangforum Wien at the Salzburg Festival, as well as a concert with the Münchner Symphoniker at the Philharmonie im Gasteig Munich.
Michael Pflumm is teaching at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.
