Promising Swiss baritone ÄNEAS HUMM gave his debut at the age of 18 at Stadttheater Bremerhaven. In summer 2019 he completed his singing studies at the Juilliard School New York MASTER OF MUSIC under the tutelage of soprano Edith Wiens. At the Juilliard School he worked closely with pianist Brian Zeger and director David Paul and was awarded the Mitzi-Koo scholarship. Prior to that, he was enrolled in the studio of Krisztina Laki at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen.
Starting with the 20/21 season Mr. Humm joined the ensemble at the BADEN STATE THEATER Karlsruhe where he will be singing lyric roles such as Papageno in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE or MARCO in GIANNI SCHICCHI.
For the 2019/2020 season Äneas Humm joined the ensemble of the Deutsches National Theater in Weimar and could be seen performing in exciting roles as Guglielmo in COSI FAN TUTTE or Harlekin in Strauss` ARIADNE AUF NAXOS. He worked with Maestro Stefan Lano and Maestro Dominik Beykirch and all roles he sang in Weimar were also role debuts.
In April 2019, Äneas first sang J.S. Bach’s MATTHÄUSPASSION on a tour through the Netherlands under Maestro Peter Dijkstra. In December 2019 concerts with Bach’s WEIHNACHTSORATORIUM followed at Tonhalle Zurich and Winterthur.
In 2015, Mr. Humm gave his role debut as Count Homonay at the Vaduz operetta in DER ZIGEUNERBARON. In winter 2016 he was Adonis / VENUS AND ADONIS by John Blow in Kongsberg and Trondheim. These engagements were followed by Lucio Cinna / LUCIO SILLA by Johann Christian Bach 2015 in Bremen and the title role in ORFEO, which he sang in 2017 as part of the Monteverdi Festival Bremen. For the seasons 2015 – 2017 he held a guest contract at Theater Osnabrück as Sancho, in G. P. Telemann’s opera DON QUICHOTTE AUF DER HOCHZEIT DES COMACHO.
Swiss television SRF made a documentary titled “A prodigy is growing up – Aeneas Humm on the way to a world career” which caused a great stir.
Mr. Humm is a welcomed guest at esteemed European orchestras, including the Bremer Philharmoniker, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, Kammerorchester Basel, Staatskapelle Weimar, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Argovia Philharmonic, the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra and the Baroque ensemble “Arp Schnittger”.
As a lied singer, he is currently celebrating particularly great success with song recitals in Germany, Hungary in the United States of America and in Switzerland. Äneas Humm has been invited to recitals at several international festivals and venues including the Lied Festival on Lake Zurich, German Forum New York, the Langenberg Festival, the Arosa Cultural Summer, the Tannersville Festival (USA) and the Bremen Music Festival, as well as the Carnegie Hall / Weill Recital Hall and the Alice Tully Hall in New York. In 2018 Mr. Humm gave his recital debut in Washington CD at the Swiss Embassy with pianist John Arida.
In spring 2018, Äneas Humm was already able to debut as a soloist in the 9th Symphony by Beethoven at the KKL Luzern under Douglas Bostock and the Argovia Philharmonic Orchestra. Since May 2018, Äneas Humm also gives regular recitals with the world famous pianist Hartmut Hoell. Close collaborations are also with Judit Polgar, Renate Rohlfing and Babette Hierholzer.
Äneas is a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association, the Fritz Gerber Foundation Zurich and, since 2017 a scholarship holder of the Armin Weltner Foundation Zurich. Likewise, the young baritone is a proud scholar of the Lyra Foundation and the Goethe Foundation for Art and Science. In June 2018 he received the “Förderpreis Deutschlandfunk”. Mr. Humm was honored to be invited by German President Frank Walter Steinmeier to sing at his residence in Berlin and present songs by Beethoven, celebrating the Beethoven year 2020.
His first CD “AWAKENING” with pianist Judit Polgar was launched worldwide by label Rondeau in October 2017. In 2020 Äneas voice can also be heard on the first CD presenting music by Swiss composer Martha von Castelberg.
2021 will mark the release of a new solo album with pianist Renate Rolhfing named EMBRACE featuring works by Franz Liszt, Fanny Hensel, Edvard Grieg and one of his favorite composer Viktor Ullmann. This album will be released by RONDEAU and DEUTSCHLANDFUNK.
