Principal Conductor of the National Chamber Choir “Madrigal – Marin Constantin”
Artistic Director of the Cantus Mundi National Program
After more than ten years of training in violin studies, Anna Ungureanu completed her education at the University of Music in Bucharest, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Music Pedagogy and Choral Conducting, a Master’s degree in Conducting Stylistics and a Doctorate in Music with the thesis “Zoltan Kodaly’s Musical Educational System in the Modern European Context“, coordinated by Prof. Univ. Dr Liliana Rădulescu.
Between 2002 and 2013, Anna Ungureanu performed as a lyric artist and conductor within the Madrigal Choir, with which she carried out hundreds of a-cappella or vocal-symphonic choral concerts. In 2007 she received the Noel Minet Europa Cantat Foundation Special Award at the “International Competition for Young Conductors” in Budapest. Also, as a conductor, she won the Second Prize of the International Competition the 15th edition of” Coral Earth is our common home“, in Ekaterinburg, Russia (2014), obtained with the children’s choirs of the Cantus Mundi National Programme, as well as the National Union of Romanian Performers and Musicians Award, the 2015 Edition. In 2013 she was honoured with the Order of Cultural Merit in the rank of Knight, category D — Performing Arts, offered by the President of Romania.
Anna Ungureanu has been part of several national and international juries, the most recent of which is the International Choral Composition Competition” My First Fifty Years” organised by the Associazione Emiliano Romagnola Cori (AERCO) in Italy.
Since 2014, Anna Ungureanu has been the principal conductor of the National Chamber Choir” Madrigal – Marin Constantin”. Her conducting vision and choice of programmes carry forward the unique concept of the Madrigal Choir, created by its specific repertoire and sonority, stereophonic location on the stage and impressive costumes. Moreover, the professional experience gained around the founder of the Madrigal Choir, the Maestro Marin Constantin, with whom Anna Ungureanu spent over nine years, recommends her as a disciple and successor of the legendary musician.
Specialising throughout her career in choral conducting under the coordination of renowned musicians Marin Constantin and Ion Marin, Anna Ungureanu has performed countless concerts all over the world – in Germany, Russia, Japan, Turkey, Serbia, Czech Republic, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Poland, China, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Israel, France, Portugal or the United Kingdom.
Since 2011, Anna Ungureanu has also held the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor title of the Cantus Mundi National Program. The program was initiated by the famous international conductor Ion Marin, and it is the most extensive program of music integration of children from Romania and the Romanian diaspora. Thus, in addition to her impressive career as a choral conductor, she is also a trainer who inspires future generations of choir conductors in Romania, periodically coordinating courses within the Cantus Mundi National Program.
