Enescu Competition is open to young musicians of all nationalities

Official George Enescu International Competition Statement: Ukraine

In these troubled times, we are all generally concerned about the delicate context in which we find ourselves, mostly our part of Europe. This includes our concern for the situation of the artists, people of culture and musicians.

The George Enescu International Competition welcomes the statement that the World Federation of International Music Competitions, of which is an active member, has made:

(…) No candidate can be seen as an official of his/her government, and no participant can be automatically declared a representative of an ideology simply because of his or her nationality. To the contrary, our organisation will always protect and support young musicians regardless of where they come from. Using the universal language of music, we encourage young artists to act as ambassadors of dialogue, understanding and bridge building between people.

Throughout its history, the Enescu Competition welcomed many valuable candidates participating in all four sections – piano, violin, cello and composition representing Russia or Ukraine, and the organisers will continue to keep open the possibility of registration of all interested musicians, regardless of their nationality.

Therefore, the organisers of George Enescu International Competition emphasise that the Rules will be respected. Thereby, this 2022 Enescu Competition is open to participants of all nationalities, born after August 1st, 1989, for the 4 sections: cello, violin, piano and composition.

George Enescu International Competition condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its use of military aggression, encouraging and supporting universal values such as peace, justice, and freedom.

We encourage young musicians of any nationality to apply to the competition. They can register on www.festivalenescu.ro/en (Registration section) for one of the four categories (violin, cello, piano and composition). The deadline for registration is April 15, 2022. The 18th edition will have one online stage in May 2022 and the semifinals and finals will take place at the Romanian Athenaeum, between September 4-18, 2022.

Enescu Competition is a cultural project financed by the Romanian Government through the Ministry of Culture.
