The Concept of the Enescu Festival 2019 – The World in Harmony

For the 2019 edition of the George Enescu International Festival, the organisers chose as the main theme „The World in Harmony”.

In a time marked by dichotomies, the Festival proposes a meditation and inspiration break on the territory of classical music and concert halls, where people from all over the world, no matter their origin, social status, faith, colour or gender, co-operate to give rise to moments of great intensity and beauty. Music is the perfect example of what it means to work together for a common goal. It is also an example of how dissonance can be included and harmonised in a single musical text.

“The sacred mission of music is to bring souls together” – said George Enescu, and now is the best time to revisit his words, at the 2019 edition of the Festival bearing his name.

For this edition, some of the museums and art galleries in the area where the events take place will prepare dedicated exhibitions, recitals and concerts. Orchestras and young musicians have aimed to envelop various spaces in music, our partners are preparing special projects, meant to bring the Festival closer to the city and to a diverse audience.

The details of all these projects are currently being determined and they may evolve in various ways throughout the year, but the main idea remains: each of them, with their personal style, note, point, clef, contributes to building in harmony an exceptional music event. George Enescu Festival brings to Bucharest, once every two years, world-class music figures, paying tribute to one of the most interesting and appreciated modern composers of the world, the Romanian George Enescu.
