Romanian Youth Orchestra

The youngest symphonic orchestra in Romania was founded during the summer of 2008 in Sinaia, on cellist Marin Cazacu’s initiative, with the support of the Foundation “Friends of music – Serafim Antropov”. Its members, most of them between 19 and 26 years old, are selected from the best musicians in the country. From the beginning, maestro Cristian Mandeal has been in charge of the technical and artistic training.

The project “Romanian Youth Orchestra – Enescu’s spirit and European tradition” started because there was a need to connect the young generation of Romanian musicians to the European requirements and artistic aspirations.

The concerts gave in 2008, 2009 and 2010 on the scene of “Enescu and the music of the world” International Festival at Sinaia, Busteni, Brasov and Bucharest were a real triumph. The appearances on the scene of the Romanian Athenaeum between the 5th and 12th of December 2009, in March 3rd, 29th and August 18th in 2000, under the baton of maestro Cristian Mandeal, and also the extraordinary concert “Eurovision – Young musicians” from March 14th 2010 and October 25th 2010, achieved with the help of The Princess Margareta of Romania Foundation, conducted by maestro Horia Andreescu, confirmed the expectations of this project.

At the XXI edition of the “George Enescu” Festival, Romanian Youth Orchestra will give a concert during the series “Great Orchestras of the World”, under the baton of the well known conductor Lawrence Foster. The program gathers works of J. Brahms, M. Ravel and D. Dediu. Renowned soloist like Pinchas Zuckerman – violin and Amanda Forsyth – cello will perform.
