George Enescu 2020 International Competition Extends Final Application Deadline Until May 29

Due to the extension of the state of emergency in several countries across the world and the requests received from interested contenders, the registration deadline for George Enescu 2020 International Competition was extended to May 29, 2020, for all four sections of the Competition. The conditions of participation have remained the same and the registration is possible online on www.festivalenescu.ro.

The Enescu Competition organizers have decided to extend the registration period to support young musicians who want to apply for the Competition, by giving them extra time to prepare the required materials for preselection. Many young musicians informed the organizers that the social distance rules enforced in their countries made extremely difficult for them to record the musical materials necessary for submission.

The 2020 Enescu Competition, to take place in September, is advancing as planned at this point. The Competition organizers trust that the measures implemented at the national and international levels for the management of COVID-19 will be effective in ensuring the best outcomes. The young musicians are encouraged to register in the Competition until May 29 and are assured that, in the event of force majeure, the organizers will fully refund registered participants for application fees paid (including those who have not passed the pre-selection stage).

’In the context of global emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, most music schools worldwide are still closed and almost half of the world’s population is currently in lockdown, observing the measures of strict confinement imposed by the authorities. Therefore, the majority of the students do not have the technical possibility to create the required materials for the application (especially the video recording for the preselection stage). Under these conditions, we would like to help out our candidates during the registration process. We decided that the final date for registration would be May 29, 2020, hoping that by then the situation will be more stable, both in Romania and internationally. We wish these measures will be helpful and we encourage young musicians to not give up but to take advantage of this special opportunity offered by the Enescu Competition’, Mihai Constantinescu, Executive Director of ARTEXIM, told the press.

George Enescu Competition is an international platform for launching the future world-class musicians and for promoting the compositions of the great Romanian composer to the new generation of artists. It is thus a natural extension of the George Enescu Festival, the most important cultural event organized in Romania. The 2020 Edition is scheduled to take place between August 29 and September 20, 2020. The Competition has four sections – violin, cello, piano, and composition – and is the most important classical music competition organized in Romania, in compliance with international standards. This year’s Program includes 19 concerts and recitals open to the general public.
