Ileana Waldenmayer

Ileana Stefania Waldenmayer was born on April 12, 1993 in Düsseldorf, into a family of musicians. She grew up in Italy, where at the age of 5, she began to study cello with Prof. Jorge Schultis in Rome. At the age of 15, she debuted as a soloist with the UNC Symphony Orchestra of Mendoza, Argentina. Two years later she obtained her diploma in Cello from the Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia in Rome.

In 2010, she started her studies in Switzerland at the Musik-Akademie Basel with Prof. Ivan Monighetti and Prof. Sol Gabetta, successfully obtaining her bachelor’s degree in 2014. Subsequently, she concluded her master studies in performance in 2016 in the class of Prof. Rafael Rosenfeld, with whom she also obtained the School of Exellence diploma and the master specialized in Cello Pedagogy. Furthermore, in 2015 she was offered a place at the Stauffer Academy in Cremona, to study with Prof. Antonio Meneses.

Ileana performed at the VivaCello Festival, the SOLsberg Festival organized by Sol Gabetta, the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and at Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona, performing with Prof. Salvatore Accardo. She has performed alongside many important European musicians, including the group 8 Cellos of Celli Monighetti alongside which she recorded a CD, Metamorphoses, and gave concerts in Switzerland and Ireland. Ileana is the cellist of the Berchtold Piano Trio, a group that won the Orpheus Swiss Chamber Music Competition in Zürich in 2019 and was invited to perform at several chamber music festivals in Switzerland.

Her career has brought her to perform in Italy, Germany, Egypt, Switzerland, Hungary, Chile, Argentina, Romania, and Kazakhstan. Ileana is currently performing, teaching and living in Switzerland, working at a project with children coming from difficult realities where music helps, stimulates and educates.
