Mingchen Ma

Mingchen Ma is a cellist from Shanghai, who is pursuing his master studies with full scholarship at The Juilliard School, with Prof. Timothy Eddy. Previously, he graduated from the Colburn Conservatory of Music with a bachelor’s degree, where he studied with Clive Greensmith, Ronald Leonard and Hans Jensen.

Mingchen Ma won the 1st prizes at the Cleveland Music Festival Competition and the China National Cello Competition, and the 4th prize at the Schoenfeld International String Competition in China. He made his recital debut at the Shanghai Concert Hall in 2015. He performed with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and Maestro Muhai Tang in 2013 and 2014, and also performed in the Seiji Ozawa Academy Orchestra tour with Seiji Ozawa in 2015 in Japan. He played the Mendelssohn String Octet with Josef Špaček in 2018, and in 2019, collaborated with Clive Greensmith, Martin Beaver, Scott St. John and Peter Lloyd in the Beethoven 250 Gala Concert at Colburn School.

Mingchen Ma had received scholarships from music festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of The West in California, Sarasota Music Festival, Bowdoin Music festival, Fontainebleau Music Festival and Meadowmount Music Festival.
