The prize is offered by the IMK Society for the Promotion of Music and Culture in Vienna, an organization that works with prestigious musicians such as Maxim Vengerov or Mischa Maisky, and runs projects in collaboration with the famous record companies Sony, Decca, and Deutsche Grammophon.
“The concert with the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra will offer exceptional visibility to the three winners of this year’s Enescu Competition, reaffirming the international relevance of the prizes offered to young artists by our Competition. In addition to the prize money awarded, the Enescu Competition is a platform for promoting young talents worldwide,” Mihai Constantinescu, the Executive Director of the Enescu Festival, told the press.
Competitors can submit their applications until May 1, 2020. Registration is open online at www.festivalenescu.ro, for all sections of the Competition: violin, cello, piano, composition.
The organizers are currently going ahead with planning for the Competition, holding on to the hope that in September 2020, when scheduled, the situation will be sufficiently stable, both in Romania and internationally, to allow the competition to unfold. Moreover, all of the jury members have reconfirmed their participation in the Competition. Depending on how the situation evolves, the organizers will determine whether further operation changes are required. In the event of force majeure, the organizers will fully refund the application fees paid by registered participants (including those who have not passed the pre-selection stage).
What are the other benefits of winning the Enescu Competition?
The first prize winners of the 2020 Enescu Competition are invited to attend the 2021 George Enescu International Festival, where they will perform together with great orchestras of the world (Orchestra of the Americas, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, etc.).
Several new prizes have been introduced, both in money (their total value exceeding 100.000 Euro), and, most importantly, in opportunities for international promotion and career support for the most talented candidates.
The George Enescu Competition is an international platform for launching the future world-class musicians and for promoting the compositions of the great Romanian composer to the new generation of artists. It is thus a natural extension of the George Enescu Festival, the most important cultural event organized in Romania. The 2020 Edition is scheduled to take place between August 29 and September 20. The Competition has four sections – violin, cello, piano, and composition – and is the most important classical music competition organized in Romania, in compliance with international standards. This year’s program includes 19 concerts and recitals open to the general public.
