With a buying average reaching up to 182 tickets per minute, the 2019 edition of “George Enescu” International Festival sets a record: the largest number of sold out concerts so far on the day tickets went on sale. Tickets to 18 concerts of the “Recitals and Chamber Music” series at the Romanian Athenaeum and eight of the “Great Orchestras of the World” series at the Palace Hall are fully sold out.
Tickets to the 2019 edition of “George Enescu” International Festival went on sale on Wednesday, 6 March, at 12 PM. After a first wave of orders, throughout the day, the demand reached a level of 27 tickets per minute around 5 PM.
Sales records with tickets sold out in just a few minutes were set for the opening concert of the 2019 edition of “George Enescu” International Festival, given by the famous Berliner Philharmoniker – in the “Great Orchestras of the World” series (Palace Hall), as well as the concerts of the Monte Carlo Orchestra, under the baton of Maxim Vengerov and with bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel as soloist, and Mahler Chamber Orchestra with the legendary pianist Mitsuko Uchida as a soloist – in the “Recitals and Chamber Music” series (Romanian Athenaeum).
In the following 30 minutes, according to information provided by Eventim, tickets sold out for the concerts given by London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Staatskapelle Dresden, as well as for those held by the Lille Orchestra, Basel Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg and for the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra concert with Elisabeth Leonskaja.
Thus, the total number of tickets sold in the first 45 minutes was 8,197. In the first 60 minutes, other popular concerts were those given by some of the most important names of today’s classical music, present for the first time at the 2019 “George Enescu” International Festival: violinist Julia Fischer, sopranos Diana Damrau and Joyce DiDonato and tenor Rolando Villazón. All of these were sold out.
In the following hour, 1,603 more tickets were sold, reaching a total number of 9,800 tickets. At the time, tickets to 12 concerts in the “Recitals and Chamber Music” series were sold out.
By 7 PM, a total number of 11,431 tickets had been sold, with 18 concerts of the “Recitals and Chamber Music” being sold out, as well as the concert given by the 12 cellists of Berliner Philharmoniker in the series “By Midnight”, and one third of the concerts in the “Great Orchestras of the World” series at the Palace Hall.
The numbers represent tickets that had been sold and paid. Tickets that were booked and are not paid in the determined period will be put back on sale.
1,870 passes to the shows in this edition were sold during the lottery organised at the end of last year. 20% of the total number of tickets were sold as part of travel agencies’ packages, and 10% are allocated to artists, state protocol, sponsors and partners.
The sale continues in the coming days, music lovers having the chance to select tickets to high-class concerts such as those given by Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra and Choir, with Sergei Krylov performing Tchaikovsky on violin, and George Enescu’s Symphony no. 3 – a first for this orchestra, “Evgeny Svetlanov” State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Russian Federation, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, in the “Great Orchestras of the World” series. A few tickets are still available for the special events of Mozart Week, for the Freiburg Baroque Choir and Orchestra, interpreting the opera Leonora and the formidable Missa Solemnis by Ludwig van Beethoven, for Grand Chapelle Madrid, with a proposal of reconstitution of Easter holidays’ music and a music journey through the works of several composers, in the “By Midnight” series, as well as for concerts in the “Music of the 21st Century” series, bringing together works by great contemporary composers, in international and Romanian interpretations on the stage of the Radio Hall.
