PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA OF SIBIU

In the context of the high number of musicians and the existance of a conservatory, and after many years of musical traditions, both symphonic and opera music, on the 1st of January 1949, the Philarmonic of Sibiu was founded. A professional cultural institution, that for more than 70 years hosted thousands of concerts and operas, ganing a diverse repertoire, both symphonical and lyrical. A significant number of  newspaper cronics, magazines, romanian and foreign, acclaimed the high level of musical interpretation of the Sibiu Philarmonic, along the quality of the CD recordings. Also,the Philarmonic had an impressive touring program along the years, including concerts in France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Spain,Russia, Turkey, etc.

For the past two years, the activity of the Philarmonic has increased remarkably, having almost 100 concerts in Bucharest, Sibiu, Deva, Piatra Neamt, Fagaras, many of which have been transmited live streaming or past recording at local and national television chanels, or on social media pages.

Many soloists with international reputations have been invited to perform with the Sibiu Philarmonic, including Ion Voicu, Alexandru Tomescu, Ștefan Ruha, Ruxandra Donose, Ionuț Bogdan Ștefănescu, Michael Baremboim, Monique de la Bruchollerie, Jean Jaques Thiollier Sciatoslav Richter,Rudolf Kerrer, Lazăr Berman, Dimitri Bașkirov, Svetla Krstrva,Lubov Stuchevskaya, Ivry Gitlis,Teodora Gheorghiu, Monteserrat Caballe and Aydin Ustuk.

Horia Andreescu, Mihnea Ignat, Tiberiu Soare, Gabriel Bebeselea, Cristian Lupes, Cem Mansur, Gabor Horvath,Theo Wolters, Marijn Simons,Tulio Gagliardo, Bruno Aprea, Nil Venditti, are just a few from many elite conductors who conducted the Sibiu Philarmonic during the years.

Awarded for its cultural activity with ,,Meritul Cultural în grad de Comandor” (2011) by His Excelency Mr President Klauss Iohannis, and in 2020 with ,, Award for music”  from Radio Romania Cultural, Sibiu Philarmonic proposes for the jubilee edition of the George Enescu Festival, an extraordinary repertoire, meant to stimulate the audiences imagination and sents, by expossing a new and original sound univers, accompanying violinist Carolin Widmann, and conducted by Tito Ceccherini.
