Tim Benjamin

Tim Benjamin creates music for the screen, the stage, and for the concert hall. His work has been broadcast, recorded, and performed internationally, and commercially released by major labels including Sony/EMI. He is well known for his many operas that have been produced and toured in the UK and France. His music is frequently used on TV programmes all over the world, from drama to documentaries, and he has scored the music for several award-winning films.

Benjamin is also a writer and director for stage and screen. In 2019 he directed a feature-length film adaptation of his opera The Fire of Olympus, originally produced by Radius Opera, an opera company founded by Tim Benjamin in 2007, of which he remains the Artistic Director.

He is a public speaker, broadcaster, and technologist, combining these in his role as Storyteller at Infinity Works, one of the UK’s leading management consultancies. He has given numerous public talks and broadcasts, including a TED talk on inspiration.

Tim is an entrepreneur as well as a composer, having founded a successful company in 1999, creating digital TV interactive services software which was used in millions of homes across Europe. Since then he has been involved in, started up, and advised a number of new high tech businesses.

Tim has won several awards for his music, notably the BBC Young Musician of the Year Composer’s Award in 1993, and many since, and his work has been supported by institutions ranging from the Arts Council England to the RVW Trust. He studied at Oxford University and at the Royal Northern College of Music, and in memory of one of his former teachers, he founded the Steve Martland Scholarship for young composers to attend the UK’s Sound & Music Summer School.
