Viniciu Moroianu was born in Bucharest, in 1962, in a family of musicians. He graduated, in Bucharest, the high school piano course with Marta Paladi and the University courses (1985) with Gabriel Amiraș (piano) and Suzana Szörenyi (accompaniment). He attended harmony classes (with Doru Popovici and Pascal Bentoiu) and conducting classes (with Constantin Bugeanu).
He won the first national prize in 1973, when he also gave his first recital. He debuted as a soloist with the orchestra at the age of 14 (Bach’s Concerto in D minor). He is a laureate of international competitions in Paris (Guilde française des artistes solistes – 1979) and Bucharest (George Enescu – 1991). He was awarded for the interpretation of works by Enescu and Lipatti.
He has over 1000 appearances on stage, in recitals, chamber concerts and as a soloist. His extensive repertoire includes first auditions and less frequently approached works, such as Bach’s Goldberg Variations, Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations, or Prokofiev’s Eighth Sonata.
He has the complete Beethoven Concertos and Sonatas for Violin and Piano in his repertoire, as well as Lipatti’s complete solo piano works, recorded for the first time in 2019, which constitute also the subject of his PhD thesis (2005). He participated in the International Festivals George Enescu (8 editions), Dinu Lipatti (3 editions), Academia Sighișoara (11 editions), as well as in Besançon, Bratislava, Graz, Chișinău and San Jose.
He toured in Europe and performed with orchestras in the United Kingdom, Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Moldova and Bulgaria, the concerts being broadcasted live on EBU and Radio Bartók. He collaborated with record labels in Romania and Greece. He has published scores by Dinu Lipatti and Radu Paladi.
He has been teaching at the National University of Music in Bucharest since 1990, as a professor of Chamber Music and Piano. He is vice-president of the Union of Romanian Musicians (UNIMIR) and founding member of the Romanian Mozart Society.
