The three young violinists qualified for the Final, Erzhan Kulibaev (Kazakhstan), Gyehee Kim (South Korea) și Donghyun Kim (South Korea) will perform concertos by Tchaikovsky and Beethoven to win the Trophy of the Enescu Competition 2016!
The winner of the Violin Section of the Enescu Competition 2016 will be announced at the end of the evening, on the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum, by the President of the Jury of the Violin Section, the French violinist Pierre Amoyal.
The audience can listen to three concertos with orchestra performed by the three finalists of the Section on Monday, September 19, at the Romanian Athenaeum, starting 7.00 p.m. (Bucharest time) in the Violin Section Final: Tchaikovsky – Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35, performed by the violinist Tchaikovsky – Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35, performed by the young violinist Gyehee Kim and Beethoven – Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61, performed by the young Donghyun Kim. The George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra will be led by the conductor Christoph Poppen.
Tickets to the Violin Final are sold out. The audience can watch the final in a live broadcast on www.festivalenescu.ro and on Medici.tv and on n a large screen placed in front of the Athenaeum.
Erzhan Kulibaev (Kazakhstan) is 29 years old. He studied in Madrid and gave concerts and solo recitals with orchestras such as the Polish Chamber Philharmonic and Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra.
Gyehee Kim (South Korea) is 23 years old and she studies at the Seoul National University. She has performed with ensembles such as the Russian Symphony, Torun Symphony, Gnessin Academy of Music and Bulgaria Pleven Philharmonic.
Donghyun Kim (South Korea) is 16 years old and he is the youngest contestant in the Violin Section. He is a student of the National Arts University of Korea. As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras like Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra and Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra.
Between September 3 and 25, 196 young artists from all over the world are coming to Bucharest to give life to their dream of becoming great artists of the world, at the 2016 edition of the George Enescu International Competition. The prizes have a total value of EUR 115,000, with the added possibility of performing on the stage of the Enescu Festival, as well as special prizes and international promotion opportunities.
Organized with a new concept, the 2016 edition of the Enescu Competition will bring to the same stage established artists as well – members of the jury, winners of previous years who have made an international career, and winners of the competition of 2014, who will give extraordinary recitals at this edition. Enescu Competition 2016 also involves the audience thanks to a new app, which allows users to register their own lifelong dream on the website of the Competition and Festival. The recitals and concerts with orchestra at the Enescu Competition 2016 are broadcast live in Romania, on www.festivalenescu.ro, and on a screen in front of the Romanian Athenaeum, as well as all over the world, by the online classical music channel Medici TV.

I want to play music for as long as I am alive.” –these are the words of George Enescu, brought back to life at the 2016 edition of the Enescu Competition, in a challenge launched to young artists and to the audience alike: “Give life to your dream!”. We are the sum of our dreams, as individuals and as a society. Enescu Competition 2016 invites us to acknowledge and celebrate the dreams that take us further, from the perspective of the selected young artists competing at this edition, as well as from that of the audience coming to support them at the Romanian Athenaeum.
