Vlad Dimulescu

Born in Brașov, Vlad Dimulescu started to play the piano at the Music High School in his native town. He continued and graduated his musical studies at the Music Conservatory Ciprian Porumbescu in Bucharest, with Prof. Constantin Ionescu-Vovu – piano, Prof. Marta Joja – accompaniment, and Prof. Petre Lefterescu – chamber music. He completed in 2000, under the supervision of Prof. Valentin Timaru, his PhD dissertation (Benchmarks of Bel Canto in Chopin’s Pianistics).

He was teaching assistant at the Music Faculty of the Transylvania University in Brașov, and from 1993 he became an Assistant in the Department of Keyboards at the National University of Music Bucharest (UNMB).

He is currently professor and head of the Department of Keyboards and Chamber Music at the National University of Music Bucharest.

He started his musical career when he was 14 years old, in a concert with the Gheorghe Dima Philharmonic in Brașov conducted by Ilarion Ionescu-Galați, where he played Beethoven’s Second Concerto. After this event, he performed in all the important musical centres in Romania: Bucharest, Cluj, Iași, Brașov, Sibiu, Timișoara, Craiova, Arad, Oradea, Târgu Mureș, Satu Mare, Bacău, Botoșani, Ploiești, Râmnicu Vâlcea, Pitești, Constanța.

He played with all the Romanian orchestras conducted by: Cristian Mandeal, Horia Andreescu, Emil Simon, Iosif Conta, Mircea Cristescu, Emanuel Elenescu, Ilarion Ionescu-Galați, Ludovic Bacs, Petre Sbârcea, Ovidiu Bălan, Remus Georgescu, Corneliu Dumbrăveanu, Gheorghe Costin, Valentin Doni, Richard Oschanitzky, Modest Cichirdan , Lóránt Szalman, Florin Totan, Cristian Brâncuși, Dorin Frandeș, Cristian Neagu, Camil Marinescu, Leonard Boga, Tiberiu Oprea, Eduard Serov, Peter Fanger, Jing Wang, Daisuke Soga, Bruno Martinotti, Gudmundur Emilsson, Tateo Nakajima, Juan José Olives, Enzo Ferraris, Massimiliano Caldo, Roberto Salvalaio, Vittorio Parisi, Mirco Roverelli, Georgi Dimitrov, Ivan Iliev, William Savola, etc.

He gave piano and chamber music recitals at the Romanian Athenaeum, The Radio Hall, The Grand Palace Hall and The Auditorium in Bucharest, and also in the main halls of the philharmonics in Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Brașov, Sibiu, Timișoara, Craiova, Bacău, Târgu Mureș, Satu Mare, Ploiești.

He performed at international festivals such as: Interforum, Budapest; Dinu Lipatti, Sinaia and Bucharest; Chamber Music Festival, Braşov; George Enescu, Bucharest; Icelandic Chamber Music Festival, Reykjavík, Festival de Musique de Besançon.

He performed in: Poland (Żelazowa Wola, Opole, Warsaw), Italy (Rome, Pescara, Bari, Sulmona, Campobasso), Spain (Vigo, Villarreal, Pontevedra), Greece (Thessaloniki), Portugal (Porto, Vila Real, Guimarães), Bulgaria (Sofia, Plovdiv, Ruse), Iceland (Reykjavík), France (Besançon), Turkey (Ankara), Moldova (Chișinău).

He gave master classes in Italy, Portugal, Spain, Iceland, Greece, Poland, and Bulgaria.

He won prizes in several piano competitions: George Enescu – Bucharest, Viña del Mar – Chile, Gheorghe Dima – Cluj; he is a laureate of the ATM Prize and the Award for Critics’ Choice.

He was a jury member at international and national piano competitions, such as Pro Piano (Bucharest), Carl Filtsch (Sibiu), Lions (Bucharest), Victor Giuleanu (Bucharest), Mihail Jora (Bucharest), Mozart (Târgoviște), Piano ArtIs (Iași), Enkore (USA).

He recorded two CDs: the first, with music by Enescu, Chopin and Brahms (2010),

and the second by Chopin (2015).

In 2004 he published the book Bel Canto in Chopin’s Pianistics.
