On Thursday, May 13, the first semifinal of the Enescu Competition’s Cello section begins. It takes place at the Romanian Athenaeum and consists of recitals of the competitors admitted after the first two stages of the Competition. Their program includes works by Enescu, Prokofiev and Shostakovich.

Competitors enter in alphabetical order and the results of the Semifinal will be announced around 6.30 PM (GMT+3). You can find the complete information here. The online access of the public to the Semifinals will be free of charge on the Competition’s website:

The selected competitors will participate in the final of the cello section and will perform together with the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of maestro Nicolas Altstaedt. The event will take place on May 15, 2021 at 6:00 PM (GMT+3) at the Romanian Athenaeum, in Bucharest.

The international Jury of the 2020 Enescu Cello Competition is led by Prof. David Geringas and comprised of Myung-Wha Chung, Leonid Gorokhov, Alexandra Guțu, Frans Helmerson, Arto Noras, Jérôme Pernoo, Meehae Ryo, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, and Raphael Wallfisch.
