Yihan Zhao

Yihan Zhao is an undergraduate student at the Royal College of Music in London, studying piano with Jianing Kong. He was a Stanbridge Drake-Brockman Scholar in 2020-21 and is an Evelyn Tarrant Scholar in 2021-2022.

Yihan joined the Affiliated High School of the Wuhan Conservatory of Music in 2014, studying with Can Cao and Professor Cheng Qian. During his stay at the WHCM, he was selected for masterclasses with Du Huang, Jianing Kong, Hong Xu and Mingqiang Li.

He won the 4th prize in the Yangtze Piano Competition and the 6th prize of the 63rd International Grotrian Piano Competition (final in China). Yihan played the Yellow River Concerto with the Oriental Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Wuhan Conservatory of Music in May 2019. 

In 2020, Yihan was offered a place and a full scholarship at the Royal College of Music. He won the Chappell Medal (1st prize) and the Esther Fisher Prize for the Best Undergraduate Performance in the Chappell Medal Piano Competition 2022. During his stay at the RCM, he is also studying harpsichord with Jane Chapman and was selected for a masterclass with Sophie Yates.
