Three young artists from France, two from Germany, two from Japan and one from the Netherlands, Norway, Bulgaria, Romania, China, South Korea, Australia, Estonia, Israel and the United States of America have qualified to the Second round of the Cello Section at the “George Enescu” International Competition 2018, the results of which were announced on Tuesday evening.
The first round of the “George Enescu” International Competition 2018, Cello Section took place on September 2nd, 3rd and 4th at the University of Music Bucharest.
The special jury decided on Tuesday evening, September 4th, the contestants qualified to the Second round of the Competition. Due to the high artistic level of the contestants registered in the Enescu Competition 2018, the jury has decided to pass 18 young musicians further, instead of 16.

The Jury of the Cello Section at the 2018 edition of the Enescu Competition consists of David Geringas, (President of the Jury), Raphael Wallfisch, Leonid Gorokhov, Alexandra Guțu, Jian Wang, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, Myung-Wha Chung, Philippe Muller și Marin Cazacu.
The second round (knockout) of the Enescu Competition takes place on September 6th and 7th, starting at 10 am, at the Romanian Athenaeum. The semifinal will be organized on September 9th. The Final of the Competition, Cello Section, consisting of three concerts with orchestra, with the extraordinary participation of the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor Paul Watkins, will take place on September 11th, at 6 pm, in the Grand Hall of the Romanian Athenaeum. Between September 1st and 23rd, 270 young artists from 39 countries from all over the world are coming to Bucharest to give life to their dream of becoming great artists of the world, at the 2018 edition of the George Enescu International Competition.
Organised as a stand-alone event since the 2014 edition, “George Enescu” International Competition invites the audience to discover some of the most talented young artists today, great names of tomorrow’s classical music and to follow and support their journey to the top: winning the competition. This year “George Enescu” International Competition celebrates 60 years after the first edition of the Competition.
