In search of the times when Enescu lived and created, in search of Enescu’s friends, his admirers, his other passions aside from his angel-like music, we found a narrow place, near the Romanian Athenaeum: Constantin Eșarcu Street. About Esarcu, a medical doctor, former minister of Foreign Affairs, we know he invented the public subscription for the construction of the Athenaeum and that he left his entire fortune to this establishment.
On the street that now bears his name, two art collectors, Michael Rotenberg and Eduard Uzunov, opened a gallery in 2013, where they have showed paintings from their personal collections (Ciucurencu, Arthur Segal, Verona, Andreescu, Petraşcu, Iosif Iser, Octav Băncila, Aman, Petre Abrudan, Mutzner, Chirnoagă, Magdalena Rădulescu), as a tribute to the beauty of Romanian art and a philanthropic initiative: the two financially support and promote teenage and young artists. For instance, they commissioned a young architect to decorate the outside of the gallery. The implementation of the project won Robert Zotescu the award of the Architecture Annual, for the gate that opens and closes the space of the Rotenberg Uzunov Gallery.
Every day, for the duration of the “George Enescu” International Festival, the Rotenberg Uzunov Gallery hosts all sorts of cultural events: art exhibitions and their vernissages, multimedia and interactive events, short documentary screenings and photos unknown to the Romanian public.
What defines this string of stories is the imagination that gives life, leaping across ages, to the connections between the early 20th century artists and those of today, between music and colour, between the spots on the banks of the Seine and the streets that surround the Romanian Athenaeum.

EXHIBITIONS
Iioana Doubleeye
She is 24 years old and she lived and studied in Florence, Bologna and Verona for ten years. She paints sobriety in pastels – “a smile has too many wrinkles and wrinkles are ugly”. She launched “kitschpunk”, that is, “the art that promotes the female sensibility and apparent superficiality”. Her works are part of many private collections and in 2017 she showed some at Art Safari, in a group exhibition.
Diana Manole
Her most recent individual exhibition, “Rerotikon”, was in April, at the Rotenberg Uzunov Gallery. Diana uses vintage elements of American pin-up and the recognisable touch of the School of Cluj. Her paintings speak of seduction and the power of seduction of the image, with or without direct human representations.
Sorin Maxim
An Olympian in sculpture (2011) and the winner of an Excellence Prize awarded by the National University of Arts, which he graduated from in 2016, he has created and showed his works in Bucharest, at the National Theatre, the Orizont Galleries or the Romanian Athenaeum.
RAID
He will exhibit at the “Guggenheim” Museum in Bilbao. He is a street artist and the exhibition at the Rotenberg Uzunov Gallery is his first individual exhibition.
Alexandru Potecă
With 23 individual and group exhibitions in Romania, India and Israel, a sculptor whose works are part of private collections in Romania and the rest of the world. He studied for 2 years at the Art Institute at the Visha-Bharati University of India, after graduating from UNARTE.
FILM AND PHOTOGRAPHY SCREENINGS
4 large interactive screens become the support for the screening of documentary films, interviews and pictures of George Enescu, taken after 1947 in Paris and New York.

From the beginning of the “George Enescu” International Festival and until its last day, we invite you to 1 Constantin Esarcu Street to taste the fantastic “Rotenberg” wine with a long tradition, which has become the wine of the Enescu Festival, as well as French delicacies from “Bucate pe Roate” and “Opus”.
