The specialized jury decided on Saturday evening the three musicians qualified for the Violin Final. Giuseppe Gibboni (Italy), Vikram Sedona (Italy) și Orest Smovzh (Ukraine) will enchant the public on Monday, September 17, în the final, with Paganini Violin Concerto No.1, Brahms Violin Concerto in D major op.77 and Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D major op. 35.
Giuseppe Gibboni (Italy), Vikram Sedona (Italy) and Orest Smovzh (Ulraine) qualified for the Final of the Violin Section at the George Enescu International Competition 2018. The results were announced on Saturday evening by the specialized jury consisting of Pierre Amoyal, (President of the Jury), Salvatore Accardo, Agustin Leon Ara, Remus Azoiței, Silvia Marcovici, Eduard Schmieder, Viktor Tretyakov, Pavel Vernikov and Krzysztof Wegrzyn.
The audience can listen to three concertos with orchestra performed by the three finalists of the Section on Monday, September 17, at the Romanian Athenaeum, starting 7.00 p.m. Bucharest time in the Violin Section Final: Paganini Violin Concerto No.1, performed by Giuseppe Gibboni (Italy), Brahms Violin Concerto in D major op.77, performed by Vikram Sedona (Italy) and Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D major op. 35 performed by Orest Smovzh (Ulraine).
The George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by Christoph Poppen.
Tickets to the Violin Final are sold-out, but the final will be live broadcasted internationally on www.festivalenescu.ro.
Giuseppe Gibboni (Italy) is born on 16th of May 2001. He participated in the RAI Program 1 In collaboration with UNICEF “Prodigies – Music is Life” and became the “Italian miracle”. Gibboni recorded a CD with Warner Classics, which bears his name. He plays a violin F. Landolfi, entrusted in 1751 to the Fondazione Pro Canale of Milan. Giuseppe Gibboni won First Prizes at the “L. Kogan” International Violin Competition in Brussels and International Violin Competition “A. Postacchini”, as well as First Prize and Special Prize for the Execution of the Paganini Caprices, in 2016.
Aged 18, Vikram Sedona (Italy) attended the Pinerolo International Music Academy with Prof. Dora Schwarzberg from 2012-2014 and is currently studying at the University of Performing Arts in Graz. The young musician has already performed in Italy, Austria, Malta, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Russia and France. He won First Prize at the “Andrea Postacchini” International Violin Competition in 2017.
Orest Smovzh (Ukraine) is born on 27th of March 1991. He is currently a Peabody Institute student, under the tutelage of Prof. Midori Gotō. He has studied violin with his mother, with Prof. Nadiya Varyanko, Mariya Futorska, Yaroslava Rivnyak, Dmytro Tkachenko, Qian Zhou and graduated the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore. Orest Smovzh also participated in masterclasses with Vadim Repin, Ilya Gringolts, Ivry Gitlis, Gyorgy Takacs-Nagy, Nigel North, Bernard Lanskey, Pierre Amoyal, Nam Yun Kim, Petru Munteanu, Kszysztof Węgrzyn, Takashi Shimizu, David Takeno and Norman Fischer. He has performed on instruments by Guarneri del Gesù, Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, Carlo Landolfi, Lorenzo Storioni and Stefan-Peter Greiner, loaned by late Mr. Rin Kei Mei and private collections. He is a winner of the “Tadeusz Wroński” Violin Solo Competition in 2015
Between September 1 and 23, 270 young artists from 39 countries from all over the world are coming to Bucharest to give life to their dream of becoming great artists of the world, at the 2018 edition of the George Enescu International Competition.
Organized as a stand-alone event since the 2014 edition, “George Enescu” International Competition invites the audience to discover some of the most talented young artists today, great names of tomorrow’s classical music, and to follow and support their journey to the top: winning the competition. This year “George Enescu” International Competition celebrates 60 years after the first edition of the Competition.
