Glass Orchestra

2-24 September

Romanian Athenaeum / Grand Palace Hall

Free admission

The Glass Orchestra is an original installation, created by the artist Iulia Năstase specially for Creative Bucharest 2017. It can be seen and experienced in front of the Athenaeum, between 2 and 13 September, and it will be installed in front of the Palace Hall between 14 and 24 September.

The work consists of an orchestra with 30 glass instruments, positioned as if they were on stage and ready to be played. There is a stand in front of them, where guests can go and experience the role of conductor. By making various movements, deciphered by the kinekt installation associated to the work, they will play the instruments.

The project’s ambition goes beyond the Enescu Festival. Using fully private funds – without which the project could not happen – the orchestra will be presented by the sponsor during several subsequent events.

Iulia Năstase is taking part in Creative Bucharest for the second time. In 2013, she presented the installation “Violin rhythms”. Due to her love for violin and music, the Enescu Competition collaborated with Iulia Năstase in 2014 and 2016, when the artist designed the trophies for the laureates.

Aside from her collaboration with Enescu Festival, the artist’s portfolio includes exhibitions such as:

“The Mask’s Transparency”, the installation “In Between Drops”, etc.

With each project closely related to the theme of sound, Iulia Năstase brings those who love music, music instruments and glass objects into a different world, a world that speaks of the beauty of the classical, reinterpreted through passion, imagination, talent and the power of “yes, we can”.
