Korean violinist Gyehee Kim is the winner of the 2016 George Enescu Competition, and is the recipient of a number of prestigious international violin competitions, including First prize at the 2018 Andrea Postacchini International Violin Competition, First prize, Audience prize and Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra Prize at the 2017 Munetsugu Angel Violin Competition, which included the loan of the ‘Rainville’ Antonio Stradivarius (1697) for three years. Also she was also a top prize winner at the Manhattan International Music Competition, Torún International Violin Competition, Isang Yun Competition, and International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians and Gnessin International Competition for Young Pianists and Violinists.
At the age of 9, she won Grand prize at the Korean Chamber Orchestra competition, becoming the youngest winner in the competition’s history, and a year later she made her Seoul debut on the Kumho Prodigy Concert Series. She has since performed with top Korean orchestras such as the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Korean Chamber Orchestra and has grown her reputation in her home country. Additionally, she has collaborated with numerous orchestras as a soloist such as George Enescu Philharmonic, Russian Symphony, iPalpiti Orchestra Ensemble, Torún Symphony, Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra, Pleven Philharmonic, Sudettic Philharmonic, Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana, Gananam Symphony, Gyeong-gi Philharmonic and more. Also, she has been invited to perform in numerous venues, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in Los Angeles, the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest, Kirchner Cultural Centre in Buenos Aires, Mozarteum University Salzburg in Salzburg, Munetsugu Hall in Nagoya, Teatro dell’Aquila in Fermo and Seoul Arts Center in Seoul.
Distinguished as “Rising Star of the Year” in 2018 by the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation,
she has performed in such events “Sarah Chang & 17 Young Virtuosi” in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the opening of Seoul Arts Center, the 60th anniversary of the Korean War Peace Concert, George Enescu Festival, Moscow Meets Friends, Seoul Spring Festival of Chamber Music, Gyeongi Arts Center Chamber Music Festival, Kumho Asiana Soloists, Cichej Muzyki and iPalpiti Festival and many others. And she was officially invited to participate in 2017 Kronberg International Violin Masterclasses & Concerts in Germany as an active participant.
A native of South Korea, Gyehee studied at the pre-college division of the Korea National University of Arts with Bonjiu Koo and Sunny Lee in Seoul. At age 16, she was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music where she studied with Joseph Silverstein. She received a bachelor’s degree at Seoul National University, where she studied with Young Uck Kim. Last year she moved to Munich, Germany to pursue her studies, and she is currently completing her masters at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Lena Neudauer as a DAAD(German Academic Exchange Service) scholarship holder.
