Soprano Kristine Opolais, renowned for her roles on the most important stages of the world, from the New York Metropolitan Opera to the Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala and the Covent Garden Royal Opera House, will give an extraordinary recital on the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum on September 22, at the 2017 edition of the George Enescu International Festival.
Acclaimed for her roles at the New York Metropolitan Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala and Covent Garden Royal Opera House, under the baton of renowned conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Antonio Pappano, Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Harding or Andris Nelsons, the soprano Kristine Opolais will give a recital at the Enescu Festival 2017 for the first time, on September 22, starting 4.30 p.m. at the Romanian Athenaeum.
The soprano Kristine Opolais will replace the baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, who rescheduled his participation for a future edition of the Enescu Festival, due to medical reasons.
Kristine Opolais is one of the most acclaimed sopranos worldwide, known for her remarkable collaborations with the Metropolitan Opera in shows broadcast all over the world. She performs on stages including the Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala, Opernhaus Zurich and Covent Garden Royal Opera House and she works with famous conductors from Daniel Barenboim, Antonio Pappano, Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Mark Elder, Daniel Harding to Andris Nelsons, Fabio Luisi, Kirill Petrenko and Semyon Bychkov.
In the 2017/18 season, Kristine Opolais will make her debut in the role of Elsa in “Lohengrin”, in a new production of the prestigious Covent Garden Royal Opera House.
Opolais has been dubbed by the British press “the best Puccini soprano of the moment” (The Telegraph). Kristine Opolais recorded works by Puccini along with the renowned tenor Jonas Kaufman, on a record released by Sony, which received a Grammy Award.
Tickets bought for September 22, when the recital of the baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky was scheduled, remain valid. By showing them upon entering the concert hall, the audience can have access to the recital given by Kristine Opolais.
