The Online Round of the George Enescu International Competition continues with the piano section, with 35 recitals given by young musicians from all over the world. 35 young pianists out of the 39 registered were declared eligible by complying with the conditions imposed by the rules. Classical music admirers have access to all the online content of the Competition for free on www.festivalenescu.ro/en.
The jury proceedings for the first stage of the Competition will take place online by analysing the contestants’ videos. The specialised juries consist of internationally renowned musicians. This edition’s piano jury is formed of Nelson Goerner (Chairman of the Jury), Dana Borșan, Hyoung-Joon Chang, Philippe Dinkel, Peter Jablonski, Andrey Pisarev, Matti Raekallio, Josu de Solaun and Andrea Lucchesini.
The results of the online stage of the piano section will be announced on the Competition’s website until May 31, 2022. Only 12 contestants will be able to qualify for the Semifinals of the 18th edition of the Enescu Competition, which will take place in September 2022, at the Romanian Athenaeum.
The repertoire of the piano section of this edition covers a wide selection of illustrious works from the most representative periods of music history, from Bach to Debussy, to highlight both the virtuosity and the interpretive sensitivity of the participants. The average age of the Piano section competitors is 25 years old, and the youngest pianist is 15 years old.
The George Enescu International Competition, one of the most important international launching platforms for young musicians around the world, is created as a natural extension of the George Enescu Festival – the most prestigious cultural event organised by Romania. Over time, the Enescu Competition has significantly contributed to the promotion and launch of many great artists, who have always kept a close connection with Enescu and Romania.
