Twelve young musicians won the majority of votes given by the Violin Section’s jury members of the 2022 George Enescu International Competition and qualified for the Semifinals. In alphabetical order, they are Stefan Aprodu (Romania), Takamori Arai (Japan), Kristina Besman (Russia), Heidi Hatch (Spain), Andrea Hughes (USA), Yoko Ishikura (Japan), Maria Marica (Romania), Joanna Ruseva (Bulgaria), Reika Sakamoto (Japan), Christian Sebastianutto (Italy), Ming-Chun Teng (Taiwan, China) and Grégoire Torossian (France).
The Online Round of the 2022 George Enescu International Competition, Violin Section, was held between May 6-23, 2022. 21 young violinists entered this section. The results were announced online by the president of the jury through a video posted on the Competition’s website on Thursday, May 26.
“In the last three weeks, my colleagues from the jury and I listened to 21 violinists from 13 countries who recorded their repertory for the online round. I would like to congratulate all the participants for their great efforts in these hard times” stated Dmitry Sitkovetsky.
The Violin Semifinal will take place on September 10 and 11, 2022 at the Romanian Athenaeum, in Bucharest. The program includes representative works from Enescu’s creation for violin: Sonata no. 2 for piano and violin in F minor op. 6, Sonata no. 3 for piano and violin in A minor op. 25 “Dans le caractère populaire roumain” and Suite for violin and piano op. 28 “Impressions d’enfance”. The final will be on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, and the three qualified competitors will be accompanied by the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by maestro Wilson Hermanto.
The Violin Section’s jury of this edition consists of Dmitry Sitkovetsky (President of the Jury), Remus Azoiței, Frank Huang, Paul Kantor, Simon James, Silvia Marcovici, Igor Petrushevski, David Grimal and Krzysztof Wegrzyn.

The results of the cello section were announced yesterday, May 25, and the results of the piano section will be announced tomorrow, May 27, on www.festivalenescu.ro.
The George Enescu International Competition serves as an international launching platform for future world-renowned musicians and aims to promote the compositions of the great Romanian musician among the new generation of artists around the world, and is thus a natural extension of the George Enescu International Festival, the most prestigious cultural event organized in Romania. The Competition has four sections – violin, cello, piano and composition – and ranks in the top five worldwide in the landscape of classical music competitions.
