Pianist Daria Parkhomenko, winner of the 2018 edition of the George Enescu International Competition, garners attention from the international press with her latest disc, “George Enescu: Works for Piano”. The performance, characterized as “flawless and full of virtuosity” (The Guardian) manages to “render superbly the essence and depths of Enescu’s music” (BBC Music Magazine). The success contributes to supporting the strategic direction launched by the George Enescu International Competition and Festival to bring the music of the great composer George Enescu back to the international forefront.

Two of the most prestigious British publications, The Guardian newspaper and BBC Music magazine, have included in their recent editions extensive reviews of the album “George Enescu: Works for Piano”, by pianist Daria Parkhomenko, winner of the 2018 edition of the George Enescu International Competition. The works by George Enescu included on Daria Parkhomenko’s disc are: Piano Sonata no. 1 in F sharp minorPiano Sonata no. 3 in D major and Piano Suite no. 2 in D major.

“Daria Parkhomenko draws the listener in, finding a richness and depth in Enescu’s textures that is superbly caught in warmly recorded sound. She has all the virtuosity for the hora dance rhythms of the middle movement, and evokes the Romanian-Moldovan plateau at night into the closing nocturne – though equally the whole performance seems to breathe the mountain air of Enescu’s retreat at Sinaia, where he worked on the sonata in summer 1924“, notes the prestigious BBC Music Magazine.

The works have a muscular tang that is distinctively Enescu’s own; Parkhomenko projects that wiry intensity superbly, and her performances of what to many listeners will be unfamiliar but thoroughly rewarding music are as fiercely committed as they are brilliantly accomplished.” notes critic Andrew Clements in the famous British daily The Guardian.

The disc “George Enescu: Works for Piano”, performed by pianist Daria Parkhomenko, was released in 2022 and received numerous positive reviews in specialized publications. The disc can be purchased online or played on major streaming platforms.
