Danor Quinteros (Chile), Victoria Vassilenko (Bulgaria) and Takuma Ishii (Japan) qualified to the Final of the Piano Section at the George Enescu International Competition 2016. The results were announced on Friday evening by the specialized jury consisting of Gabriel Tacchino (president of the jury), Rolf-Dieter Arens, Dana Borșan, Philippe Dinkel, Peter Donohoe, Wolfganz Manz, Viniciu Moroianu, Andrei Pisarev and Alan Weiss.
In the Final of the Piano Section taking place on Sunday, September 25, at the Romanian Athenaeum, starting 7.00 p.m., three concerts with an orchestra performed by the three finalists of the Section: Rachmaninoff – Piano Concerto No 2, Op. 18 in C Minor performed by the pianist Danor Quinteros (Chile), Brahms – Concerto No. 1, Op. 15 in D Minor performed by the pianist Victoria Vassilenko (Bulgaria) and Rachmaninoff – Piano Concerto No 2, Op. 18 in C Minor performed by the young Takuma Ishii (Japan). The George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by John Axelrod.
Tickets to the Piano Final of the Enescu Competition 2016 are sold out. The audience who could not purchase tickets to the concert hall can watch the final in a live broadcast on a large screen placed in front of the Athenaeum, on www.festivalenescu.ro and on Medici.tv. In addition, starting 9.00 p.m., during the break when the jury is to deliberate, the audience is invited to a surprise event: for the first time, the façade of the Romanian Athenaeum will be transformed by the dreams of artists and the audience, to the sound of George Enescu’s music.
Danor Quinteros is 32 years old, studied at the Zurich University of the Arts and the Cologne University of Music. He has given recitals in Chile, Germany, France, Italy and Spain.
Victoria Vassilenko is 23 years old and she is a graduate of the National Academy of Music of Sofia and the “Queen Sofia” Music College. Since 2014, she has studied at the New Bulgarian University, and since 2015 at the Lake Como International Piano Academy.
Takuma Ishii is 26 years old and studies at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna. In 2012 he graduated from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
Between September 3 and 25, 196 young artists from all over the world are coming to Bucharest to give life to their dream of becoming great artists of the world, at the 2016 edition of the George Enescu International Competition. The prizes have a total value of EUR 115,000, with the added possibility of performing on the stage of the Enescu Festival, as well as special prizes and international promotion opportunities.
Organized with a new concept, the 2016 edition of the Enescu Competition will bring to the same stage established artists as well – members of the jury, winners of previous years who have made an international career, and winners of the competition of 2014, who will give extraordinary recitals at this edition. Enescu Competition 2016 also involves the audience thanks to a new app, which allows users to register their own lifelong dream on the website of the Competition and Festival. The recitals and concerts with orchestra at the Enescu Competition 2016 are broadcast live in Romania, on www.festivalenescu.ro and on a screen in front of the Romanian Athenaeum, as well as all over the world, by the online classical music channel Medici TV.
“I dream ceaselessly. I want to play music for as long as I am alive.” – these are the words of George Enescu, brought back to life at the 2016 edition of the Enescu Competition, in a challenge launched to young artists and to the audience alike: “Give life to your dream!”. We are the sum of our dreams, as individuals and as a society. Enescu Competition 2016 invites us to acknowledge and celebrate the dreams that take us further, from the perspective of the selected young artists competing at this edition, as well as from that of the audience coming to support them at the Romanian Athenaeum.
