Violin first: 5 must-see concerts at the Enescu Festival

We offer a selection of  five concerts that put the violin in light, with renowned soloists and tickets still available. Some concerts include already celebrated works, others tease you to discover famous contemporary composers.

2. RUSSIAN NATIONAL ORCHESTRA, Soloist: Vadim Repin

Enescu – “Aria şi Scherzino” for violin and orchestra (1909)
Sir James MacMillan – Concerto for violin and orchestra (first Romanian hearing) (2009)
Tchaikovsky – Symphony no. 5 in E minor op. 64

The Concerto for violin and orchestra composed by Sir James McMillan in 2009 will be performed by the violinist Vadim Repin for the first time in Romania. James McMillan will be in Bucharest for discussions with the public within the International Composers’ Forum.

 

3. ROYAL CONCERTGEBOUW ORCHESTRA, Soloist: Liviu Prunaru

Soloist: LIVIU PRUNARU – violin

Programme:
Beethoven – “Egmont” Overture op. 84 (performed together with the members of the Romanian National Youth Orchestra as part of the “Side by Side” program)
Enescu – “Caprice Roumain” for violin and orchestra (arrangement by Cornel Țăranu following the composer’s drawings)
Prokofiev – Symphony no. 5 in B flat major op. 100

 

One of the best-known Romanian violinists, often present on Romanian stages, Liviu Prunaru is the concertmaster of the famous Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam Orchestra, one of the best orchestras in the world. As a soloist, Liviu Prunaru will play George Enescu in Bucharest.
