Starting July 23, Tickets and Subscriptions Go on Sale for George Enescu International Festival Concerts in Sibiu and Cluj-Napoca

Yuja Wang and Robert Powell to Perform in Sibiu, Maxim Vengerov and Maria João Pires in Cluj

Classical music lovers in Sibiu and Cluj-Napoca are invited to buy tickets and subscriptions to local concerts organized as part of the 2021 George Enescu International Festival’s Jubilee Edition, starting July 23. These concerts will offer audiences a wide range of works by Enescu, Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, and Bach.

Enescu Festival in Cluj-Napoca

2021 Enescu Festival will bring 6 Gala Recitals to Cluj, between September 1 and 11, to take place at the Auditorium Maximum Hall. Among participating artists are famous violinist Maxim Vengerov with Polina Osetinskaya; Fine Arts Quartet, ranked among the most distinguished chamber music ensembles today; French-Cypriot pianist and composer Cyprien Katsaris, who has been playing for decades in the high league of classical music alongside the greatest orchestras worldwide, with Manuel Fischer-Dieskau, one of the most tonic cello performers; as well as Maria João Pires, one of the best known and most appreciated pianists today.

The list is completed by two laureates of the George Enescu International Competition from its most recent edition (2020-2021), in the piano and violin sections: South Korean Yeon-Min Park, who triumphed in the Piano Final with a convincing performance of Rachmaninov’s masterpiece Concerto No. 3, and Romanian violinist Valentin Serban, who, in tandem with pianist Gabriel Gitan, has prepared a musical moment designed to delight the audience.

Enescu Festival in Sibiu

In Sibiu, 4 Gala Recitals will take place in association with the 2021 Enescu Festival, between September 3 and 14, at the Thalia Hall. Among the artists and ensembles invited to perform at concerts in Sibiu are the Mahler Chamber Orchestra with famous pianist Yuja Wang; Gil Shaham, one of the most important contemporary violinists, 11 times nominee for the Grammy Awards, as well as the Romanian Royal Camerata, an increasingly common presence on Romanian and international stages, which plans to surprise with a rich artistic program by Vivaldi and Piazzolla, together with renowned violinist Shlomo Mintz.

Another surprise of this edition is the presence of Robert Powell, one of the legendary cinema stars, who has played Jesus in Franco Zeffirelli’s celebrated film Jesus of Nazareth and the great composer Gustav Mahler in his biopic. Robert Powell is part of the cast of The Passionate Life of Claude Debussy, alongside actress Rohan McCullough and musicians Clive Conway on the flute and Christine Croshaw on the piano.

The 2021 George Enescu International Festival is scheduled to take place between August 28 and September 26, 2021, with an exceptional musical program, sustained by over 3,500 international and Romanian artists for a record duration of 4 weeks, with measures in place to reduce potential health risks for audiences, artists, organizers, and journalists.
